"So what prank did you want to do?" Dylan asked, plotting in his brain.
Since I had been thinking about it for a while, the perfect idea came to me quickly.
"I want to do that thing where you put coloring in someones shampoo so their hair changes color!" I said, excited. Dylan laughed and said "Perfect. The kid loves his hair, that'll be fun to see. And he's showering soon, after Chris, who is in right now."
"Awesome. So what's our next step?" I asked.
"Well, you have to get the coloring and drip some into his shampoo. So, can you go into the bathroom, ask Chris for the bottle, and then drip some in without anyone knowing, Baby?" he asked.
I nodded seriously.
Dylan laughed and walked over to the kitchen. He opened the doors up and then dug deep into the pantry. He got out a few food coloring bottles and said "Pick your favorite." I grabbed one with an excited smile and sprinted upstairs. As I got to the top, I looked around to make sure that nobody was out of their room. I found nobody so I ran to Dylan's bathroom excited. In our upstairs area, we had two bathrooms so somehow I ended up sharing one with Talen and Blake, while Nick and Dylan shared one. Those two were the grossest so I didn't really mind.
I opened up Dylan's door and heard the shower running. Oh, right. Chris was in there. I wandered over to the bathroom and called out "Hey Chris, it's Dakota."
I heard a loud girly scream.
I started laughing. "Chris, was that you?" I asked, walking into the steamy room.
"What the fuck, Dakota? You scared the shit outta me! It was like Psycho!" he called back.
"Sorry!" I said. "I just need the shampoo for a second. Can you pass it to me?"
"Why do you need Dylan's shampoo?" he asked.
I hesitated, considering telling him, but I decided against it. "Just give it to me!" I said.
"Fine!" he said, passing out the bottle. I hopped up onto the counter and opened up the bottle and coloring. The green drops fell into the shampoo, and I wiped the sweat from my forehead. The steam was intense. I put a few in and then realized I didn't know how much to add. I set the bottle down and left the room. I walked back down to Dylan and asked how much I would need. He told me just to add a lot cause the bottle was almost empty so it wouldn't matter. I ran back up and opened the door to the sauna again.
I got in and searched for the bottle again. I saw it sitting on the same place on the counter so I opened it up. I dropped in more of the coloring and then I shut the lid down tightly.
"You can have this back n-" I said to Chris, turning to the shower.
Instead of seeing the closed door though, I saw the door opening and Chris walking out. My eyes were practically pinned open as I saw Chris scream again. He had a towel wrapped around his waist and one over his shoulder but nevertheless he attempted to cover himself up.
"What are you doing in here Dakota?" he asked.
"Sorry! Sorry! I was borrowing the shampoo and then I was gonna return it. Sorry!" I said.
"I thought you just left forever!" he said.
"Sorry, no!" I said, turning away still.
After a minute he said "Kota."
"Yes?" I squeaked, pointing one squinted eye at him. He grabbed my hand and pulled me around, saying "You can look, it's fine."
"Ok." I said in a small voice. I looked to see his wet curly hair dripping down. I followed one bead of water that trailed down his straight jawline and onto his chiseled chest. I casually looked at his beautiful tan skin and randomly said "Hi."
"Hi." he said back, with a smile.
"So, what'd you need the shampoo for?" he asked.
"Still not telling." I said. "Now gotta go."
I walked out the door and he grabbed the back of my shirt and pulled me back.
"Whoa whoa, what are you talking about, kitten? When have you ever lied to me?" he asked, acting offended.
"This is the first time." I said with a cheerful smile. I ran out the door and looked back to see him shut the door to get changed. I went down to Dylan and high-fived him. Mission accomplished, with a small unplanned side mission.
Then, we sat and waited. Since Nick was notorious for his long showers, it was no surprise that it was twenty five more minutes before we heard from him. After a little, Chris came and sat down with us, not mentioning anything about earlier. When I turned to see him, he merely smiled at me cockily. Dylan almost noticed so when he looked away I shook my head at him, making him silently laugh. That was when we heard the scream.
Nick ran downstairs, in his clothes by now luckily, and then ran over to me.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?" he demanded, picking me up by my shirt. I hovered half a foot off the ground and looked up to see Nick's hair, which was now a beautiful bright green.
I bust out laughing and Chris and Dylan did as well. Nick geared back and shook me a little.
"DID YOU DO THIS KOTA?" he asked me. I just stayed laughing. I couldn't help it, he looked like a christmas tree, or an ogre or something. Nick then swung out a fist and prepared to punch me. I pulled me knees up to protect my chest and ducked my head a little.
But before he could hit me, Blake caught his fist. Talen ran downstairs behind him.
"What are you doing Nick?" he asked in a confused voice.
Nick let go of my shirt, dropping me to the ground harshly, but I was still in a ball laughing.
Blake and Talen then noticed his green hair. We were suddenly all laughing and laughing and laughing. Talen went so far as to even point at him and Nick screamed angrily. "Shut up!" he said, making us laugh harder.
Finally we all calmed down. "Okay, who did that to Nick's hair?" Blake asked.
I looked back at Dylan and he made a motion as if to say, you can take the credit if you want. I raised my arm happily and Blake said "Kota. Not cool." but he was still smiling.
Nick suddenly charged at me and punched me in the side. Luckily, he wasn't as strong as Dylan or Blake. I still groaned as he did it a second time and then all of a sudden he stopped. I looked up to see that Chris had protectively shoved Nick off of me. I looked at Nick, who was lying on the ground, and then to Chris who smiled a small smile at me, but his eyes still looked wild.
"Wow. Dude. Calm down." Nick said, standing up with his hands up. I giggled at his hair again.
"Sorry, I- sorry." Chris said, sitting down awkwardly.
The rest of my family looked at him oddly.
Then Blake shook his head and said "Well Kota, if you pranked someone, you have to know what will happen in return. "
"What?" I groaned, sitting up and grabbing at my side.
He rolled his eyes as if it was obvious and said
"A Prank War."
