Finally, everything was alright in my little world again. Dylan was being his normal idiotic self, Taylor was actually slightly my friend and I talked to her sometimes, and Luke and I were the same as always.
In the morning, during English, Luke passed me a note asking me out to lunch. I smiled, too hugely, and nodded. I didn't think I'd ever get over how someone so amazing like him could like me. We had gotten really close these past few weeks and my friends thought maybe soon he'd ask me to be his girlfriend. I could only hope. I attempted to focus on English, but I honestly was always very distracted in this class.
In math, and the rest of my classes I was way too eager, bouncing on my toes and smiling at everyone and everything.
After waiting through my boring classes, it was time for lunch. I speed walked to meet him at the front of the school and smiled when he walked up to me. He grabbed my hand in his and we walked to Panera together, per my request.
We ordered our food and were sitting talking. Although the convo started lightly with me complaining about my brothers, soon it got a little deeper.
Luke said "Dakota, you're so lucky you have your brothers!"
"I guess." I chuckled.
"No, really. I mean, if you have like a sport game, or Nick has a play, you all go and support. And if you mess up, it's just a joke in your family, not a big mistake." he sighed, looking down.
I reached across the table and grabbed his hand. "Whats wrong Luke?
"You can tell me." I added, when he looked away.
He looked up into my eyes. "Okay, it's just my family. They... expect me to be Mr. Perfect, all the time, in sports, An-And in grades. Everything! And sometimes It's just too much stress. I feel like I just want to be me. And mess up sometimes. And go a little crazy."
I looked at him. "Nobody expects you to be perfect all the time." I said. He looked at me confused and I continued "I mean to say, all parents want that. They all hound their kids about doing everything right, they're just trying to be good parents. They want you to be better than they were."
He nods and I add "If you feel like it's too much to take, just talk to them. I'm sure they will understand."
The waiter dropped some food off at our table and we began eating.
"Thank you for the advice. I'll try it." he said, looking happier and lighter somehow.
"And, by the way, Luke, with me... you'll always be perfect." I added, smiling at him.
"Kota," he said, smirking as I winced at the name, I mean, not him too!
"Dakota," he began again, "Will you be my girlfriend?" he asked, smiling and holding my hand still.
I blushed and said, "Yes, of course!"
We finished our lunch together talking about stuff that I barely remember. When we got back, I immediately told my friends and Luke mentioned it to his too. Soon, a lot of people in school were talking about it. I was overjoyed to be the center of attention, and not for something my stupid brothers did.
Then I realized something. My brothers! If they find out, they might kill me.
They might kill Luke.
I decided I would not tell them. I mean, if I did, it would be a safety hazard to me, and Luke! And I wouldn't do that to him. It would have to be a secret for now. I know I suck at lying, but I could do this.
I got into the car after school that day and sat between Nick and Talen. Taylor was coming over for dinner so sat in the front seat, on Dylan's lap illegally. As soon as we began driving, Talen gave me a sly smile.
