Clean Up

I rested my head on Blake's shoulder and waved out the door.

Blake dropped me off his back and I struggled to stay upright.

Dylan said "I'm surprised Kota. You made it all the way till midnight and further. New personal best?"

"Yep, probably all the alcohol keeping me up." I said, patting my stomach as I walked into the living room.

He smiled. "You didn't get any. I stole it, remember?"

I laughed and said "Sure you did."

He looked confused, probably because he could tell I wasn't lying. He came and sat by me on the couch.

"I watched the whole night! I know you didn't come get any." he said smugly, but with a hint of confusion in his eyes.

"I didn't." I smirked. "But Chris did."

"No." Dylan said, disbelieving as it registered. "No! He wouldn't!"

I nodded and smiled, stretching back.

"You drank tonight Kota? You had alcohol here?" Blake said, turning from me to Dylan. Nick and Talen chuckled behind us.

"Only a little, don't worry Blake. And Dylan's friend brought the drinks, not him." I said, covering for us. Dylan looked at me somewhat less angrily.

Blake looked settled on the Dylan thing but said "You are still underage, Kota! You cannot keep doing this!"

"It was a two time thing." I said, flippantly.

"KOTA! You cannot do that ever again!"

"Fine." I sighed, pulling out my phone. I didn't like the taste much anyways, and it's not like my tricks would work again.

"And, because you did it tonight..." Blake thought of a punishment.

I interrupted him. "Blake, I suggest you think about it carefully. Now one thing happened tonight, in particular, that I think you and I remember more than anyone else." I said, referencing the Aubrey and him incident.

"Yes?" he said, with large warning eyes.

"So, if you want to keep me from not sharing that subject with the public, then I suggest you don't punish me."

Dylan, Talen, and Nick, who were only half listening said "Wait! What happened?" now, suddenly interested.

Blake flushed and quickly said "Fine. But don't do it again." I nodded with a smirk.

"OK. Well then, I'm tired. I'm gonna go shower, then sleep." I said, with a smile.

Dylan said "Aw, that's cute. But no." and he draped an arm over my shoulder.

Nick said "Now comes the real party."

I was confused until Talen explained. "The cleanup."

I groaned "Ugh! Can't you all just do that?"

Everyone was about to argue until Dylan held up his hands to stop them.

"Look Kota, you can definitely go, if you're too tired to help and can't stay up."

He knew I wouldn't just drop a challenge like that.

"I'm not tired at all." I said, standing up and grabbing a garbage bag.

"Thats what I thought." he said, as Talen and I walked outside. For about an hour, we wandered around in the dark with our phone lights. The hardest part was not the cans or cups, but the chunks of fireworks hidden around the lawn. As we wandered in the dark, I got sleepier and sleepier, and stumbled more and more often. Once we finally collected it all, we walked back inside. The living room looked nice and so did the other rooms. It was all better now, luckily. The others were upstairs in Dylan's room still cleaning. We walked up to help.

I could barely make it up the stairs because my eyelids were dropping so badly. I snapped up for a second and realized I was at the top of the stairs.  I shuffled behind Talen and into Dylan's room. They were picking stuff up off the floor. We followed suit and began to throw more stuff out.

I saw something at the tip of Dylan's bed that looked like trash so I clumsily leaned over to grab it. I blinked my eyes shut and then my foot accidentally hooked on the bottom of the bed. I fell face first limply onto the comfy bed and I stayed still. My breaths became deeper and deeper and I knew I was drifting off. I rolled onto my side and my eyes shut.

I heard Dylan say "Hey. That's my bed!" in a hushed tone.

Blake said "Shut up and let her sleep." and I heard them start to exit the room.

I felt a blanket drape lightly over me and then everything went black.

I woke up awkwardly, trying to stretch. I looked down and realized I was still in my dress, with Blake's hoodie still over me.  Then I looked around and saw that I was in Dylan's room. The events of last night came flooding back to me. I stood up with a little headache and went into my room to change.

I walked in and noticed a giant shape covered under my light blue fuzzy blanket.  I crept over to the figure and lifted the blanket up, only to see Dylan lying on my mattress in just shorts. I walked over to my closet, grabbed some comfy sweats and an old soccer jersey and threw them on in the corner. Then I walked back over to the bed and Dylan.

I leaned down close to his ear.

"RISE AND SHINE!" I yelled loudly.

"AH!" he yelled, waking up and shooting an arm out at me. I fell to the ground in pain and shock and grabbed my cheek.

"Dylan?!" I said.

"Huh?" he asked, looking back and forth wildly. He looked down at the floor and said "Oh, Kota. It's just you." he sunk back onto my bed.

"Ummm... you just slapped me in the face!" I said.

He looked down again, chuckling now. "Oh, my bad. You okay, baby?"

"I'm not a- just- UGH it hurts! Jerk!"

"Calm down, I'll get you some ice." he said, standing up.

I followed behind him and we walked downstairs. "And when did I invite you to sleep in my room?" I asked.

"About the same time you literally fell straight onto my bed and fell asleep. Blake told me not to wake you." he said, shuffling into the kitchen and getting a bag of ice. I went to sit on the couch and saw Blake, Nick and Talen sitting, doing homework. The windows shone gorgeous sunshine in but they were 100% focused.

"Homework?" I asked sadly.

"School tomorrow." Talen said, looking up at me. "Oh my god, what happened to your eye?"

I grabbed at it and said "Why?? Does it look bad?"

".......No." Talen said after a moments hesitation. Dylan walked in at that moment and passed me a bag of ice. I pressed it against my face and I hissed when it stung.

"Calm down." Dylan said.

"What happened?" Blake asked.

"Basically, Dylan slapped me because he hates me." I said, holding the ice up.

Blake turned to Dylan and Dylan nodded with a proud smile.

We spent the rest of the day doing our homework and finding random cups from the party hidden places. By the end of the day, all the excitement of yesterday had calmed down. We did our work and then after a while, just relaxed. It was weird but after all the excitement over the break I would be a little grateful to just relax and fall back into the routine of school. I also couldn't wait to hear everyone compliment the newest Hastings party and actually be in on it.
