The next day, school was canceled because smoke from a fire had been pushed towards the school by wind.
I ran downstairs screaming and dancing, still in my school clothes. "WOOOO! NO SCHOOL! NO SCHOOL!"
"Shut up." said Talen, rubbing his forehead. "It's still 7:30!"
"Yeah, really Kota." Nick seconded.
"You guys are lame. What are we gonna do all day?" I asked, picturing the one time we went bowling, or ordered a pizza for breakfast. One of the perks of sort of growing up with Blake as a parent. A few years ago, my parents passed away because of a drunk driver who hit their car. We've been doing better recently, but for a while it was a challenge to get by. Blake gave up his girlfriend of three years, my other brothers became more rude, and we all became detached for a little while, until Blake found a way to unite us.
"What're we gonna do today? You've forgotten?" Dylan said with a smirk, coming down the stairs.
"Forgotten what?" I asked suspiciously.
"Forgotten that today is your punishment day." he said, his lips spreading into a smile.
"Oooh, Kota, the big day." said Nick chuckling. Talen looked up too.
"Wait, why is she being punished?" Blake asked as he came downstairs too, wearing nothing but hollister joggers. I hated when he did that because his six pack showed. And NO! Its not cause I am attracted to him, (ew, thats my brother!) its because it reminds me that he, or any of the boys really, could easily hurt me. They have in the past and they'd do it again.
"Because I said so." Dylan said, using a classic line. "I heard it was because-" Talen started saying until he was interrupted. "It was because of nothing, you little shit-" Dylan began. Talen continued "becaaaause in their math class, Kota embarrassed Dylan.
"She didn't embarrass me, she just needs to stay in line!" Dylan said, now glaring at me. Talen, shut up now, please, I thought. Blake laughed and grabbed Dylan, giving him a noogie. "Aw, were you embarrassed?" he said in a baby voice.
Blake is the only one taller and stronger than Dylan, so the only one that could ever do that. "Get off." Dylan said, pulling away. "We are going outside."
Maaan. Dylan never really looked this mad before. Guess I've never really embarrassed him before this though.
He dragged me out into our backyard and the other guys followed. The cold air hit my bare arms and I wondered how a fire would even manage to stay active for longer than an hour! "Cooooommme oooooooooooon!" I moaned, as he pulled me along. Finally I decided, I wasn't going to take it. I fell to the ground and curled into a ball to prevent him from taking me anywhere. My favorite defense. Dylan turned, frowned, and picked me up. "NO!" I screamed. He mumbled shut up and tossed me over his shoulder, with my legs on his front, and face on his back. I pounded his back as hard as I could as the other guys laughed. I gave up eventually and glared at them. Dylan walked me over to our pool.
"NO!" I said, my eyes wide. He was going to throw me in.
He knew what I thought, laughed, and said "HA! You wish you were that lucky!" He grabbed me and pulled me to the ladder leading to the high board. I looked up to the top about ten feet and said "No No No!" more. Dylan then tossed a towel over his other shoulder and started climbing. "How are you even doing this?" I said, almost in tears of frustration. Blake actually fell over laughing. We got to the top and Dylan set me down next to him. He pushed me to the center of the board.
"Jump in!" he said, smirking.
"NO WAY! Its September and the pool is probably freezing! And i'm not wearing a swimsuit!" I yelled.
"Aww too bad." Dylan said, frowning, and mocking me. "Guess I'll have to convince you..." he said with a smile. He pulled the towel off of his shoulder slowly.
"Don't do it." I said glaring.
He smiled larger and starting winding it up. "This is for embarrassing me, baby." he said, twisting up the towel like a mini tornado in the air. I looked into the freezing pool and considered just jumping. But I might die. Or drown. Or freeze even. I might be able to get out of this still.
Talen shouted out, "Come on Dylan, she gets the point!" trying to protect me.
"Not yet, little bro!" he shouted back.
He twisted it more to add anticipation. It worked.
I gulped and stepped back a little. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I felt the sharp slap of the towel across my cheek. I yelped and touched my hand to my face, backing up slightly. It burned in the cool air. "Please Dylan!" I yelled. I felt the whip like towel snap across my neck once, and I touched where it was stinging. I backed up more until only my toes were left on the board. "Please." I whispered, looking into his green eyes. He chuckled and said, "Don't embarrass me again." He pressed two of his finders to each of my shoulders and pushed, just hard enough to knock me over.
I saw only his pleased smirk and then laughter as I fell into the freezing pool.
