The movie started... And seemed to continue for days. Long after I had given up watching and simply hid my head behind Chris's back and closed my eyes. I tended to be kind of a wimp about horror movies.
About five minutes after I started doing this, Talen looked over and laughed.
"You good, Kota?" he asked in a mean way.
"Shut up! I'm fine!" I said, though it came out muffled through Chris's shirt. I could feel the vibrations from his silent laughter.
Talens comment, however, pulled attention away from the movie and soon everyone was looking over at us.
Aubrey and Taylor said, in voices filled with concern, "Are you okay, cutie?"
My brothers, being the opposite of concerned, started making fun of me immediately.
"Awwww, what's wrong baby?" Dylan immediately teased.
"You alright?" Nick echoed with a giant smile on his face.
"Fuck off." I answered, although it came out more as "Fmmmk omf".
"Say that again." Blake offered, glaring at me.
I pulled my face out from behind Chris and looked at their smug faces.
"I'm sorry, Blake. I meant to say Please fuck off. That was rude of me." I said, smiling when Chris let out a huge laugh and high-fived me.
I laughed too until Blake came over and picked me up. I stretched out my arms towards Chris and said "HEY!"
He went back to his corner of the couch and sat down, placing me on his lap, pointed directly at the TV.
"Now watch." He said with a smile. "No hiding."
I started to deny it but he just put a huge hand over my mouth and pointed me to the screen.
And so I watched. The whole. Entire. 2 hours. And 14 minutes.
By the end, I was fallen back against Blake's chest, and was curled up into a tight ball. No. No. No. No. No. STUPID HORROR MOVIES WEREN'T EVEN GOOD WHY DID PEOPLE LIKE THEM THEY'RE JUST STUPID AND BAD AND SCARY AND TERRIFYING AND NOT GOOD AT ALL NOT EVEN A LITTLE WHY WHY WHY.
The second the credits rolled and Blake relaxed his grip I leapt off of him and ran to Chris.
He caught me in his arms as if we had the move choreographed and he brushed a hand through my hair, then kept it on the small of my back. His other hand continued to stroke my hair reassuringly.
The others were teasing me, per usual, but I just ignored it. I did not need that right now.
Stupid Conjuring. Stupid Horror Stuff. WHY ON EARTH did anyone ever want to watch that??
After a minute Chris look down at his phone and said "Crap! I'm sorry Dakota, it's late I have to go back home! Henry and Bella will be waiting."
"No, Stay here toniiiiight..." I whined a little, and breathed into his ear. Kissing him could be the perfect distraction.
My brothers immediately started to fight this.
"No way in hell is Chris staying here with you!" Dylan said, sitting up and pushing Taylor over a little as he did so.
I rolled my eyes and said "He's your friend you know he wouldn't try anything."
Sadly, Chris said "I'm sorry babe, I really have to get home. But text me all night if you need to. Love you!" And he blasted out the door like Cinderella, or I guess he'd be Prince Charming...
