Dei waited as she sat on one of the comfy chairs inside the coffee shop where she and James were waiting for their friends.
It was 6 in the afternoon and she was starting to miss RJ a lot. It was the first time that they had been apart for this long since they got together for their project and the sepanx was finally kicking in.
Her phone beeped again and she saw a couple of screenshot files from RJ. It was for the lyrics of the song he wrote for her...
"Hey, Dei, you've been smiling there like an idiot for a few minutes now, and I've been doing a monologue here for about half an hour. Did you even hear what I just said?" James said, looking at her with a frustrated look on his face. "
"What?" Dei asked, looking at him, distracted, and with a huge smile on her face.
"I said Lily texted, they just had to drive by at Stef's house but they should be here in half an hour." he said.
"Oh wow. I thought we were meeting at 5:30. Things never change huh?"
"Tell me about it," James said, rolling his eyes. "What are you so distracted about?" he asked her, suddenly curious.
"Well... RJ wrote me a song." she said, showing him the screenshot of the lyrics while trying hard to wipe the huge grin off her face.
"Wow, the guy has talent." he said, genuinely amazed.
"Yea, and you should hear him sing," she said proudly.
"So you guys are getting serious now, huh?"
"Yes," Dei said, blushing. "And I know it seems like a whirlwind but I've never been this happy, James." she added quickly, unable to stop herself from smiling more.
"Well, I'm happy for you, Dei. He's a lucky guy to have someone like you. I just hope he's worth it." James said, his tone serious.
"Oh, he is."
"I'd like to know him more though. I don't want him hurting my baby sister so I have to make sure he's alright." he said, puffing his chest.
Dei laughed. "Baby sister. You haven't called me that in a while. I can still remember what you did to that jerk who broke my heart in senior year."
"Yep. I bet he's still sporting that scar till now," James said with a smug smile. "I may have been a complete nerd then but I sure knew how to throw a good punch. The sonavabitch wasn't expecting it."
Dei laughed at the memory. Her phone beeped again and showed an email received. The subject said: "The Sepanx is real babe" and it was from RJ.
She clicked it and saw an audio file.
"Here, listen to this. He just sent me his recording," she said excitedly as she handed James the other piece of her earphone and moved closer before playing the audio file.
"Okay, I must admit the guy has potential. If I could sing that good and play instruments that well, man, I'd be getting the best girls too!" James said. "Your guy's a catch, huh? The rich and talented pretty boy..."
"Uhuh. Not to mention smart, thoughtful, caring, hot--" Dei said dreamily.
"Okay I get it, he's perfect." James said, laughing as Dei blushed.
"Oh my God, Dei! You're here. What a nice coincidence!" a voice said in front of their table.
Dei and James looked up and Dei had to force a smile as James' jaw almost dropped to the floor.
