Maya's POV

"So Topanga. Tell me again the story of you and Cory," Jo (Eric's wife) asked.

Tell me again the story of you and Cory," Jo (Eric's wife) asked

"Yea, I know you've told me a couple times, but they were chopped up stories, tell the story to us from the beginning," my mom added in support of Jo's request.

Yay. I get to sit in a spa and doing girly stuff all day while a hear Topanga talk for hours about love and Cory and blah, blah, blah. It didn't help that I was going through all this stuff with Josh and they couldn't stop talking about all this cupid bullshit.

"Once upon a time..." Topanga began.

Oh here we go with the fairytale talk. Honestly, I'm not so sure that happily ever after exists.

"...there was a curly haired boy and a frizzy haired hippie..." Topanga continued to tell the story.

I kind of zoned out during Topanga's story. Not only have I heard it a million times, but every now and then she would say things that brought my mind right back to Josh and our story.

I remember we met in that same Philadelphia park where Cory and Topanga met, where he re-proposed to her a few months ago.

My mom had asked Cory and Topanga to babysit me because her and my dad had just gotten into a huge fight. So, they took Riley and me to Philly overnight to visit her grandparents.

I was 3 at the time and Josh was 6. Riley's grandparents took me, her, and Josh to the park for the day. We played for hours. We played tag, we sat on the swings, we went down the slide, we played in the sandbox. I remember having one of the best days of my life until another kid in the park walked over and kicked my sandcastle down. Almost instantly, Josh stood up and pushed the boy who had ruined an early-life Maya Hart masterpiece. The boy cried and told his parents, who obviously told Josh's parents, but he didn't really care. He didn't care that he was grounded for 2 weeks, he was just happy that he defended me. That was the moment I knew I loved Josh. Sure, it was kiddy love. But I knew I wanted that boy in my life forever.

But now, especially within the last 3 years, he was seemingly more like the boy who was hurting me rather than the boy who was protecting me. Sure, he hurt me those few times in middle school when I was professing my feelings for him. But that was different; those were the days of denial for Josh. This was different.

"Anyways, so I pushed him up against the locker and kissed him," she gushed on.

I look around and everyone is looking teary eyed as the ladies at the spa are painting our toenails. Riley looks especially enthralled in the love story of her parents. Figures. Haha.

"And then he followed me to Disney World to win me back," Topanga smiled through her words.

Disney World. Fuck. The Happiest Place on Earth. Until it wasn't. THAT night in Disney World 3 years ago made the Happiest Place on Earth quickly turn into the MOST MISERABLE PLACE on EARTH.

My head is spinning just thinking about it. So I rest my head on my hand that was propped by the arm of the pedicure massaging chairs.

I continue to listen on-and-off to Topanga's story, despite my better conscious urging me to do otherwise. But instead of growing weary from Cory and Topanga's epic love story, I become hopeful. Damn these Matthews people, they are always sneaking up and planting seeds of hope in my brain.

Because for me, well, hope always lead to disappointment. Except the more Topanga continued to tell us about the bumps detours their relationship took before getting to where they are today, the more hopeful I got.
