Maya's POV
"I have them both somewhere around here," Riley said frantically rummaging through the closet where we shoved a bunch of junk that we didn't have a place for.
"It's okay if we can't find it Riles. We can play a different game, or we can just do something differ--"
"Got it!" she interrupted me with a board game in her hand. She walked back towards the center of the room. "So I couldn't find The Friends Game, but I did find this!" she waved The Family Game in the air in excitement.
"Teams?" Farkle asked.
"Well, I guess it would just make sense to do the couples, and then Maya and Zay can pair up," Lucas suggested.
I found myself overwhelmingly annoyed by his suggestion. I know he didn't mean it in the way that I was taking it, but it still pissed me off. It was exhausting to always be the single one in the group and being thrown around to whoever was available. It was like a constant reminder that my love life was just about nonexistent and falling apart at the seams. But it did make sense, what Lucas said. That and I could probably use some Zay humor right now--and I'm sure he knew that after I told him all about Josh.
"Sounds good to me," Riley spoke as the others nodded.
I moved next to Zay on the ground, as everyone else got situated.
"I think we should go to college first," I looked at Zay for approval.
"I'm cool with whatever. Plus, college nights always ended up with some hot girl in my room," he winked at me.
I playfully hit his arm.
"Hey, what was that for?!" Zay clenched on to his arm.
"Well, I think we should just skip college and go right to life and career and babies," Riley smirked and raised her eyebrows at Lucas. She was clearly trying to be seductive. Lucas just laughed it off.
"We can't even get through one activity without you guys getting all gooey sappy on us can you?"
"To be fair that was more kinky than gooey sap, but yea you're probably right," Zay added.
"Smackle and I are gonna follow suit and go to college." Farkle placed there game piece on the college path.
About a half hour passed and we were finally getting somewhere in the game.
"Pick another couple to go on a double date with--(you both lose one turn)," Riley read straight from the card.
"Hmmmm...Farkle and Smackle!" she shouted.
"But what if I wanted to hang out with Zay. You gotta stop making all the decisions in this relationship. Remember conversation--," Lucas started to say but I couldn't listen to this spiel one more time.
"Yea, yea. It's the most important part of any relationship," I finished for him.
"Now I love you and all buddy, but I think Riley actually did me a favor on this one because Maya and get an extra turn on you guys now," Zay patted Lucas's shoulder.
I rolled the dice since it was our turn. I picked up the card and read it aloud, "You and your partner go through an amicable divorce. Divide your money and become two separate players. However, anything that affects the other should be handled together."
"Well, it was good while it lasted, but game on Ms. Hart. I'm single and ready to mingle. I'm fresh on the market now. Nothing can stop me--" Zay said in a singsongy voice.
I playfully hit his arm again.
"Ouch! Except for maybe that. It's supposed to be an amicable divorce Maya. We stay friends and look out for each other. Besides, we don't even have a kid yet, so we don't have any ties besides our friendship and the money," he explained.
