Chapter 47

Maya's POV

"I'll just go first, I might as well while I'm on a roll opening up," Smackle raised her hand.

"We're not in school anymore, but yes, Smackle you may go first. You can put your hand down," my hand motioned for her to put her hand down. 

"I might be pregnant!" she blurted out as though she might explode if she didn't tell us. "And Farkle doesn't know yet."

"What?" I responded almost too quickly. 

"Wait didn't we all drink earlier today? ...like numerous times," Lucas said with worry in his voice.

"Oh please. I'm not dumb. It's all part of the allusion. I would either dump it over my shoulder or replace it with a nonalcoholic drink. And you guys were too intoxicated at that point to realize. Besides, while I am taking the precautions, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I don't know for sure yet. I haven't taken the test yet. I'm too scared."

The memories of my miscarriage began to overwhelm me, but I knew I couldn't cry. I wasn't gonna tell them about the abortion actually being a miscarriage and then proceed to reveal that it was actually Josh's baby.

"Okay, well first thing tomorrow, we will get you that pregnancy test. And please don't worry. I'm here for you, Maya is here for you, and everybody else is gonna be here for you," Lucas got up and hugged her.

"Do you want to be pregnant?" I asked bluntly. I didn't mean it in a nasty way, I was just genuinely curious.

"I'm not really sure, and I hate to say that, but the whole concept of having a baby is really scary. Plus, I don't know what's up with Farkle and that's making it even worse."

I kind of understood what she was saying. I was so sad after the miscarriage, but in a way, there was some relief as well. And I know that sounds awful; I was honestly devastated, but I was also terrified to be a mother. I didn't think I was gonna be any good at it.

"Well, no matter what. We will be there for you. And like Lucas said, we can go get you this test tomorrow. We can be there for you through it all," I smiled at her.

"Yea, I might just take you up on that," Smackle smiled back.

"Speaking of big life changes. I was offered a once in a lifetime job in Texas," Lucas confessed. 

"Did you tell Riley yet?" I asked on behalf of my best friend's best interest.

"No. I don't know how. Anything she has ever known is right here in New York. Or Philadelphia. I don't know how," Lucas bit his lip and sighed.

"You have to tell her soon. Before she finds out from someone else," I told him.

"Yea, she always finds out," Smackle joined in.

"Also, congrats. I'm not even gonna bother to ask what the job is because I don't think I will ever understand what you do, I laughed.

"I know. I just don't know what to do. It's the oldest story in the world. Career vs. love," he rubbed by his right eye.

"Maybe she will go with you," Smackle suggested. 

"Maybe, but I doubt it. Like I said, her whole life is here. I can't ask her to move away from all of it, especially for me, for a job."

"Just talk to her about it, soon. Probably after the wedding, but talk to her about it. Remember communication is key. Don't be irrational, remember that she is gonna be spooked and scared, but also remember that she might be overzealous with her generosity too. Just don't forget to think about her, don't hurt her," I warned him.

"I would never, Maya. You know that. I would never hurt any of you. Especially Riley. Plus, I don't even know if I wanna take it, I mean I love my job here, it's just never what I pictured myself doing. And this is my home now too. It's been my home for like 10 years now. But enough about me, I'll figure it out. What about you Maya?"

"Pass," I said hopeful that they will accept. I know I can lie about what my secret is, but that is not what tonight is about. Plus, I knew I was gonna have to tell them eventually, and at least this way, I can get a little advice on how to tell Riley.

"Nice try," Smackle wagged a finger at me. "But I had to say my secret and so did Lucas."

"Yea, we won't judge and what is said here stays here," Lucas assured me.

"Josh and I were kind of something, and we had sex."
