Chapter 48

Maya's POV

"Go Maya," Smackle gave me a wink and a nudge.

"I'm sorry...What and when?!" Lucas said in awe. 

"I don't know I mean there was always that special thing between us, but it turned into something after his college graduation about 3 and a half years ago and then ended when he moved to Florida at the end of that summer. The sex was right before he moved. He pretty much broke my heart. Then, we kind of reconnected a couple of days ago and that's what happened last night. We got into a fight and it's over for good. It had something to do with some girl in Atlantic City. That's pretty much the gist of our timeline."

"I'll fucking hurt him for hurting you," he clenched his fists.

"It's okay Lucas," I put a hand on his shoulder. "But thanks."

"And Riley..?" Lucas began to ask.

"She doesn't know," I solemnly admitted.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath.

"I second that," Smackle added.

"I'm gonna tell her, but I really don't know how. I mean it's Riley. And he's her uncle. And I'm her best friend. And he was my Uncle Boing. And as much as I would love to deny it, I'm distraught over it, and would rather forget it. But she deserves to know and I'm gonna tell her...eventually."

"What about the wedding and all? You do remember that you have to walk in with him right?" Smackle reminded me, much to my dismay.

"Yea, well, I told him that after the wedding it's done. All of it. We will put on a smile and cooperate, but after that I wanna cut all ties. I can't keep playing games. Plus, there was that really nice guy Ben, and I think I might give him a shot. I deserve to be with someone who appreciates me and gets me. Someone who wakes up and says, 'Damn, I'm with Maya. I'm so lucky.' I want that and deserve that."

"Well, we will be there for you, when you do tell her. And if he tries anything at the wedding. I'll kick his ass," Lucas grinned.

Smackle nodded in agreement.

"Fine, but at least wait until after the wedding because these could be your future in-laws after all," I smiled back. 

"You'll find that guy Maya." Smackle continued, "Whether it's Ben or someone else or even Josh in the long game, you'll find him."

"I know. It's just a little discouraging sometimes." I looked down in my lap and picked a piece of lint off my pants.
