The girl doing my hair and makeup spun my chair around so that I was face to face with the mirror, "You're all done!" She smiled sweetly at me through the mirror, taking off the black smock.
She left almost instantaneously to go gossip with one of the other hair stylists.
I was speechless. Within the time that I sat in this chair, the girl was able to completely transform me into this whole different person just by doing my hair and makeup. The makeup was sweet and simple, nothing too intense, but god she did wonders in combination with the updo. There were very few times that I had seen myself look like this. Maybe two times that I could think of...at least to this degree. My surprise sweet sixteen that the Matthews, my mom, and Shawn schemed and my senior prom.
"Wowzaaa," Riley snuck up from behind, her hands on my shoulders.
I made eye contact with her through the mirror before turning to face her, "You're looking pretty wowzaaa yourself." I scrunched my nose before facing the mirror again.
I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror.
Our hair and makeup was done very similarly, but it was adjusted to suit each of us slightly.
I tangled my fingers in the loose curls that hung free from the updo.
"Don't touch it Maya! You're gonna mess it up," she smacked my hand away.
The updo accentuated the extra blonde highlights in my hair that lingered from spending most of the summer outside drawing. Even though my skin never got that tan and my freckles seemed to multiply in the summer sun, the natural sun highlights and the beautiful summer scenes made it all worth it.
