Chapter 73

Josh's POV

"Josh, where are you taking me?" she giggled clumsily. 

"Right......here!" I said, coming to a halt in the hallway that led toward the bathrooms.

We sat down side by side on the nearby couches that were randomly placed in the hallway. It was a fuzzy tan couch that was surprisingly comfortable despite its stuffy, fancy look. We adjusted our bodies so that we were facing each other comfortably.

"So Ms. Hart what brings you into my office today," I pretended to be listening and thinking hard.

"You! You practically dragged me here so that you can look at the minuscule cut in my finger," she pouted, crossing her arms.

"Let Dr. Matthews take a look, this could be detrimental to your health," I informed her.

"What is wrong with you weirdo?" she said with provoking judgement in her voice while placing her hand in mine so that I could get a better look.

"Ahhh. Hmmmm. Oooooh," I made faces to match the emotions of each of these sounds.

"What?!" she asked, more attentive now.

"It's just as I suspected," I looked up at her with concern apparent in my eyes.

"Oh my god what?!" she was suddenly panicked in response to my reaction.

"Well, Ms. Hart. According to my extensive examination, I found a tiny fracture of a firm, brittle substance that is transparent to the human ocular."

"Really?" she rolled her eyes. "You couldn't just tell me that I had glass stuck in my finger?"

"Nope," I smiled with satisfaction. 

"Just take it out already," she pursed her lips.

"What's the magic word?" my smiled evolved into a smirk.

Maya leaned in towards me, becoming inches away from my face. All of a sudden, I became flustered in her presence. I licked my lips unknowingly to appease my nerves.

"Please," she said seriously before smiling and recreating the space between us.

My heart rate finally steadied.
