Let Him Go

Gene struggled to cope with the feelings that were building up inside of his soul.

Whenever he looked at his his hired companion, Zane Ro'Meave, his world lit up.

He had hired Zane to travel with him through the lands of the Ru'an Region. However, with these feelings, he couldn't stand to see Zane end up dying because of him.

"Zane?" Gene spoke.

"Yes?" Zane looked up.

"This is where we part ways...." He sighed.

"It's a lonely thing, travelling the Ru'an Region all by yourself. You'll know where to find me if you decide you miss my companionship." Zane nodded, then he was off.

Gene watched regretfully as Zane walked out of his life.

Four years later, Gene received a black envelope with an ice blue ribbon keeping it closed.

Carefully untying the ribbon, he looked at the letter inside.

"Dear Gene,

We regret to inform you that your past companion, Zane Ro'Meave, was found dead two days ago in the burial grounds of a wyvern. His funeral will be in five days at the O'khasis Cemetery. He carried these words on a small paper with him,

"Dear whoever may find this,

My name is Zane Ro'Meave, and I feel in love with my companion, Gene. It's been four years since we've parted our ways, but I still hold onto the hope of seeing him again. I've been places that I never would've dreamed of because of him.... I wish I could pay him back somehow.... Maybe I'll be able to find something in the Okage Dragon Burial Grounds.... Maybe, just maybe.... I'll see him again."" Priest of scaleswind.

"Zane..... No....." Gene fell to his knees. "NO!!!!"

"Cause you only need the light when it's burning low...

Only miss the sun when it starts to snow.

Only know that you love him when you let him go.

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low.

Only hate the road when you're missing home.

Only know that you love him once you let him go...."

The image of Zane walking out of his life flashed through his mind.

".... Why'd I let him go...."
