Sunlight blinded what little Zane could see.

He still wasn't use to that; sunlight. He had been trapped inside a mountain for just about his entire life, so what could one expect? He had finally found a way out, and now he had been captured by some guards and being dragged to an arena.

The pale gold and white sand felt warm under his feet, as multiple gasps sounded from above. Looking up, Zane could see faces staring down at him with open mouths and wide eyes. Too many faces to count or remember. Too many faces for him to care.

The two guards who were escorting him dragged him to the other side of the arena, where a stone balcony overlooked the arena. There were two thrones, one holding someone who definitely looked like royalty, and the other holding someone who must have been an important noble of some sort.

King Zenix, Zane thought suddenly, staring at the brown haired dragon hybrid.

Zane was suddenly grabbed by both arms and lifted off of the sand, up to the balcony where the two thrones were. They dropped him on to he hard surface, and then took their positions by the doorway behind the thrones.

The one who was definitely a royal had silky black hair and teal blue eyes. He had a fairly tanned complexion, with dark red huge and powerful wings, horns with faint black markings, and a tail. He was wearing a set of black robes underneath his red armor, with a similar red sword resting on his lap. Around his neck was a black necklace, that resembled what Zane had read of a choker, with gold spikes was circling his throat. There were golden rings on ree of his fingers, and an armband wove like a snake all the way up one of his arms, with tiny rubies glittering like eyes st one end. A crown of twisted metals was atop his head, decorated with rubies, onyx jewels, quartz, and moonstones. Thin gold chains were wrapped around his horns, some of the links inlaid with rubies. He had another necklace around his neck, this one also made from gold, only this one had three sapphires that shone like captured blue stars. He glittered with poise and diamonds. A thick metal chain was in one hand, with a similar collar at one end.

The other, who was "King" Zenix if Zane remembered correctly, was not as wealthy looking. If wealth was determined by scars, then he would probably be the wealthiest being ever. An earring made from bone was twinning down one of his ears, with a black metal sheath fitted tightly across his chest with a padlock on the outside. He had a golden armband fitted with glittering black stones, with a thick chain of silvery-black metal links was around his neck, with a black locket dangling at one end of it. Carved on the outside of the locket was a dragon shape, wings spread and tail curled in two loops below, inlaid with golden-copper metal that glinted in the sunlight. In Zane's honest opinion, it was an ugly necklace.

Granted, of course, Zane hadn't seen many necklaces before. The only necklace he had ever seen was the one one of his previous keepers, Zach, had worn around his neck; a string that went through the loop of a key and tied in the back of his neck.

"Your majesty," someone who was anciently old in Zane's opinion began, seated not too far from the balcony. "Is that... a Ro'Meave?"

"Not just any Ro'Meave!" The wealthy looking king snapped. "This is second full blooded Ro'Meave offspring, Zane Ro'Meave!!"

Another gasp went through the crowd.

"Just get on with this," Zenix grumbled from his throne. "I don't like waiting."

"Yes yes, of course," He sighed, before clamping the collar around Zane's neck.

Zane tried to look down at the collar, but all he could see was the chain. He looked back up at the wealthy king's eyes, and then out at the sands of the arena.

Why did it have to be a boy? Zenix thought came first with scorn.

He looks confused, the wealthy king's thought came next.

Is that really a Ro'Meave? Someone from the gathered crowd thought.

That thing shouldn't be alive! It'll kill us all!! Someone else thought.

Zane didn't particularly like that last thought he caught onto. He wished he knew who had said it, so that he could fly over there and stick a claw in their eyeball. Ah, but, he couldn't even if he wanted to. The collar.

Gene simply adored his new pet.

It wasn't so much about the looks that had drawn him in, but the capabilities he had. Yet, this Zane Ro'Meave looked confused, and even a bit frightened.

"Well, I think it's a bit obvious that we can use his capabilities to end this war and get you your throne," he pointed out.

"Yes, of course it is," Zenix nodded in agreement.

Right now the three of them were gathered in a meeting room. Gene was sitting in a chair by the door, and Zenix was standing up and inspecting Zane, who was sitting on the floor and closed in. Discussing things with Zenix weren't exactly the easiest, but they managed to get things done.

"We could also use him to track down the treasury you lost," Gene offered thoughtfully. "Or-- ooh, a tree that grows some of our favorite foods!"

"I doubt that he can even read or write, much less even speak, and definitely not do that," Zenix huffed.

Gene had to glance at Zane for a moment. It was true that the Ro'Meave was quiet, quite possibly a mute. He didn't even have many surface emotions or feelings, as he just did whatever he was told. Hell, Gene could tell him to kiss him, and he would probably do it!

"Do you talk?" Gene asked him suddenly. "What do you know?"

Zane looked hesitant with answering, which was the first sign of defiance, in Gene's book of rules. No body questioned his book of rules (unless they happened to be Zenix), not even his own brother.

"Brother?" Zane asked him with a tilted head. "Magic brother, or plain brother?"

Both Gene and Zenix exchanged glances.

That was when Zane stood up and started walking towards Gene. Zenix stepped to the side only a bit, but Zane wasn't focused on him. He only had his focus set on Gene. That was when Zenix smirked devilishly, and held his leg out in front of Zane. That was when Zane tripped, and fell onto Gene...

And they kissed.

I'll leave the ending of this up to you, my dear readers.
