The air was freezing.
It didn't help that large pieces of snow kept hitting Gene in the face, or the fact that his armor needed to be repaired. He couldn't help but stare at the Vampire he had just rescued while his two followers, a man named Laurance and a woman named Amber, rowed the boat for them.
"About that Relic..." Gene began, looking to the blue artifact Zane carried in a glass chest. "Do we have to be careful with it? Is it fragile?"
"No. Relics are impossible to fully destroy. The most that can be done to them is have them be broken into pieces, but bringing them near will just make it whole again," Zane explained, still keeping his eyes fixed ahead.
Gene closed his mouth and blinked repeatedly. He had figured out that Zane wasn't much of a talker. In fact, he had tried to sit as far from Gene and his followers as possible. Gene couldn't really blame him for it, though. He was part of he Dawnguard, a group of beings that hunted and killed Vampires.
When they reached the castle Zane had said was his home, Laurance and Amber were worn out. Gene told them to wait and guard the boat while he and Zane went up to the castle.
"Hey, Gene..." Zane began once they were halfway up the staircase to the gates.
"Hm?" Gene asked in a humming tone.
"I just... want to thank you for bringing me here. It means as lot to me..." He admitted, his face turning pink from embarrassment.
"It's not a big deal, really," he answered with a grin.
"When we get in there, just let me do most of the talking. I know the Dawnguard, and that your... friends... would be more than pleased to slaughter every Vampire in there, but I trust you to be more in control of yourself," Zane instructed, approaching the gates.
"Zane..!?" The gatekeeper, another Vampire with brown hair and brightly glowing green eyes, gasped in disbelief.
"Hey, Vylad," Zane greeted. "I'm glad you still recognize me.. after all these years.."
"You're my brother, of course I recognize you!" Vylad shouted, pulling a lever and opening the gate.
Zane walked through, making a gesture for Gene to follow him. Gene walked through the now open gates as well, gulping s bit when his eyes met the now harsh and cruel ones of Vylad.

The castle was a lot warmer than what Gene would have expected, being on an island in the middle of s half frozen sea in a hailstorm plus a blizzard. In fact, the warmth of the castle reminded him a lot of his own home.
When Vylad stepped into a room that looked even larger than the entranceway, a loud voice yelled at him.
"Vylad, I told you to watch the gates! I know that no mortal is probably going to ever come here, but still! We're Vampires! We can't have our guards down like this!!"
"Everyone, Zane is back!" Vylad announced to... whoever he was talking to.
Numerous gasps sounded from the room, and the spitting of a drink with them. Vylad led Zane into the room, and then down a staircase. Gene followed close behind, not wanting to get left saline and then found by one of these unfriendly Vampires.
"Zane, my son.." A male Vampire with blonde hair and brightly glowing blue eyes gasped.
The other Vampires began whispering to each other, some obsessing and squealing over Zane and Vylad, while others mumbled rude commentaries towards Gene.
Layed out on the long feasting tables were human bodies, ones covered in bite marks and barely having clothing on them. They looked... deceased, dead, lifeless. Barrels with small devices attached and mugs surrounding them were covered in fresh blood. The entire dining hall smelled of death, to be honest.
"Do you still have the family Relic?" The Vampire asked as Zane and Vylad came closer.
"Ugh," Zane scoffed in annoyance and disbelief, glaring at who Gene assumed to be his father. "I've been gone for how many years and that's the first thing you ask me?"
"That Relic is very powerful," his father answered.
"Well, I'll have you know that I protected this thing with my immortal life!" He huffed, crossing his arms.
"Good," his father let out a sigh of relief. "Punamu, go make sure that Zane's room is ready for him."
A Vampire, Punamu, jumped up from their seat and ran off down one of the halls. The room was silent for a moment, before someone shouted...
"HUMAN!!"
Everyone's attention turned to Gene, who suddenly felt fear to the very core of his being. The Vampires who were once obsessing and squealing were now glaring at him in an unfriendly way.
"Why is there a mortal in MY castle!?" The fatherly Vampire demanded, turning his gaze onto Vylad.
"He was with Zane!" Vylad defended, giving Zane a sideways glare.
"He's the one who freed me from my captivity, I'll have you know," Zane hissed bitterly.
"Why did you bring him here of all places!?" He demanded.
"BECAUSE I WANT TO DO HIM!" Zane screamed in his face, a furious red.
Punamu ran back into the room, unaware of the sudden tension in the air.
"Zane's room is all cleaned up!!" She announced cheerfully. "Can I eat now?"
Zane grabbed Gene's arm, and ran off in a dash. Zane slammed the door shut, pushing Gene onto his bed. He pressed him down to the bed, tying him to the corners. When he was done, he got back up and opened his door.
"Don't do anything while I'm gone!" Zane ordered him, before winking. "Unless you wanna take off that armor of yours~."

Zane threw open the door to Garroth's bedroom.
The blonde Vampire shot upright in his bed, eyes wide and mouth hanging open.
"Zane what the Nether!?" Garroth growled, glaring at his younger brother.
"Hello to you too, Garroth," Zane laughed a bit. "I just came to tell you that there's a really cute boy outside by the shore. I think you'll like him."

"GARROTH!!!!! ZANE!!!!! KEEP IT DOWN!!!!!!!"
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"
"I CAN'T BELIEVE MY TWO SONS ARE DOING THAT WITH HUMANS--"
