Deep beneath the ground, inside the abandoned and unknown depths of ancient ruins, three thieves were pursuing the greatest traitor among them all.
Kicking open the bronze doors, Gene huffed as he was in the lead of their trio. Behind him were his two most trustworthy allies, Sasha and Zenix. He made it to the edge of the balcony that overlooked the moss covered rocks of the ground below, where a few deceased bodies of monsters lay, bleeding out into the pools of water. A large ivory statue loomed over him, depicting a male who looked serious and kind. In one hand he held an ivory staff with outcroppings that looked like thorns, with a blossomed rose atop it. The other arm was reached out, the hand opened towards the bottom, as if allowing someone to walk onto it. The entire body was made of ivory, except for the eye, which was made of refined moonstone and flawless diamond, a soft sky blue color that was relaxing to look at.
The Eye of the Savior, Gene remembered.
The sound of something hitting the jewel echoed in Gene's ears, and he was brought back to his senses. He could easily see Ein standing on what would be the shoulder, holding a pickaxe as he popped the jewel out and caught it in his arms.
"Gene, Sasha, Zenix.." Ein growled lowly, turning to glare at them.
"You are a traitor, Ein." Gene spat out in disgust and anger, gripping the handle of his sword. "You stole from the Shadow Knights and you stole from our patron and guardian-- Zane Ro'Meave."
"To blazes with Zane." The Werewolf howled as he clutched the jewel tighter. "I'm going to be rich!"
"You could have been rich if you actually took care of the organization, and did your job as the leader!" He snapped, taking a step closer. "You hold no honor in your heart, or any right to your life at all."
"Honor?" He repeated, the word echoing into the cavern and bouncing off the walls. It soon turned into laughter. "You think that we need honor!?"
"Shadow Knights have honor." Gene frowned. "A filthy, good-for-nothing traitor scum like you does not."
"Because I don't need honor!" Ein growled. "All I need is gold, jewels, power, and your blood on my sword!!"
As soon as he said that, the cavern began to shake. The balcony broke, and Gene fell to the ground below with it.
"Gene!" Sasha and Zenix cried at the same time.
Gene stood up, and rolled out of the way as Ein's sword came on top of where he was. Luckily, it had been thrown from the statue's shoulder, so Ein couldn't get it right away. Besides, it had gotten stuck between the debris of the balcony, so it would take a while to get out. But even so, Ein still had his claws... and his dagger.
Ein growled a curse under his breath, before running down the arms and jumping off the palm of the statue's hand. He jumped onto Gene's back, who yelled out in pain and grabbed a hold of Ein's shoulder and ears, before slamming him onto the ground.
Gene took a quick glance up at the crumbled remains of the balcony, only to find that his comrades were not there. For a second, he had thought they had bailed, and that this was part of the plan all along. But then he heard the growls of monsters.
They might die, Gene thought with horror.
Returning his focus to Ein, he dodged a swing of his claws just as they came down, and bashed the sharp nails with his shield instead. Ein staggered back, howling in pain as his fingers were now sore and possibly broken or about to bleed. Gene took the moment of a stagger to tackle Ein to the ground, raising his fist to punch him in the face.
