"The secret passageway should be around here... aha!"

Gene felt around the wall, his hand pressing down on one stone brick. The brick was loose, and it retreated back into the wall as Gene applied pressure to it. The secret passageway opened up, an old, dark flight of steps that led into a stairwell by the room of his target.

Tonight he would take exactly what he deserved. He would have his revenge on the king and queen, and all of O'khasis, by taking their most prized possession; their prince.

Gene thought his plan over as he moved through the stairwell, keeping himself alert for anything. Finally he emerged from the stairwell, but footsteps were approaching. Without a second thought, he hid behind a statue in the hallway corridor. A guard passed by, poking their head into the room of the prince, before making another round.

If my information is correct, the guard checks on the prince every 20 minutes, Gene thought, sliding out from his hiding spot.

He approached the double doors of the prince's bedroom, his hand wrapping around the handle. He was having hesitations about his plan, but he couldn't go back on it now. He was so close now... soon he would have everything he wanted. Soon the royal family would get what they truly deserved.

Opening the door, he stepped into the prince's bedroom. He had to admit, the maidens did always do a good job of cleaning. No credit went to the prince, the lazy spoiled little...

Anyway, Gene carefully made his way over to the prince's bed. He had to be careful to not awaken the sleeping "beauty", or else the entire plan was in jeopardy. If he was caught committing a crime this serious, it was certain death as a punishment.

The prince turned over in his sleep, and Gene just about lost his breath.

By the Divines... even though he was a male, he was adorable.

His skin was pale like a snow, or like the princesses that existed only in stories for little children. His hair was the exact opposite, black as the night, a dark navy blue wave washing over him in the moonlight. Freckles dotted his face like sprinkles on a cake, or like the stars in the night sky. He was small for his age, a little bit too curved around the torso.

As Gene took in all he could see of the prince, he saw his visible eyelid start to flutter open. Gene immediately reached for the cloth he had tucked into his sleeve, and the blade he always carried on his belt.

"Who--!?" Zane started to cry, before the cloth was pressed to his face, and he slowly fell unconscious.

Gene knew he had little time to get what he needed done. He hurriedly picked up the unconscious prince, bolting out the bedroom door and into the stairwell. He didn't know if the guards were following him, but he had what he wanted. What he deserved. What he needed.

And now... all he had to do was play his cards right.

Gene was sitting in a chair, sharpening his blade, when Zane started to wake up.

"Where am I...?" He asked, his shoulders tensing.

"Oh, I see you're finally awake, prince." Gene hissed, looking up from his blade.

"Who are you!?" He demanded, his voice bitter.

Gene got up from his chair, going over to the blindfolded prince. He untied the knot keeping it around his face, snatching the red cloth away in an instant. He backed up so the prince could see him better, with that cold expression on his face.

"At least it wasn't an ugly hag who kidnapped me..." Zane muttered under his breath, his expression unchanging. "What do you want with me!?"

He doesn't recognize me, which makes things a whole lot easier, Gene thought, but there was a background pain in his heart.
