The palace was beautiful.

Constructed of stone bricks and marble, with chiseled and detailed archways along the bridge that led to the front gates. Long white banners were draped along the marble archways, a highly detailed and unique black cross stitched into each one. Guards were positioned at the front gates, but they opened the gates with a push as they saw Gene approach.

Gene saluted to the guards, before marching inside. The steel plating of his armor was heavy, but a man had to endure some pain. Even if that pain meant travelling to the end of the world to save one of the three princes of O'khasis.

Inside, the ceiling was far above Gene, held up by sturdy beams made of cedar and wood, with iron and steel supports. More banners and tapestries were draped from the ceiling, some having different symbols and patterns than the white banners outside. A wide flight of stairs led up to the feasting tables, where the royal family, members of Lord Garte's council, and top generals and commanders were gathered.

"Absurd that you can't find any sweet rolls, even in the rathole of a city," Vylad, the youngest of the princes, complained to one of the council members.

"Oh, another person here to lick my father's boots," Garroth, the eldest of the princes, mumbled unhappily.

"Ah, Sir Gene.." Lord Garte greeted with a sly grin, sitting atop his throne.

Gene caught a glimpse of Zane out of the corner of his eye, sitting on one of the ends of the table. He was staring at Gene, too. The middle prince definitely looked a lot healthier and royal than when Gene had found him, like a true prince.

"I wanted to thank you for making sure my son was safely returned to us," Garte went on. "Thus, I want you both to become better acquainted."

Gene glanced at the others seated at the table, but they had all suddenly become very interested in their meals. Gene could only nod, before he was ushered into a hall by a guard.

Gene examined himself in the mirror.

He had gotten a bath and had been changed into a new set of clothes, which were quite fancy. He still had his sword clipped to his belt, but apart from that had no defense.

When he stepped out onto the balcony, he saw Zane looking over the railing. Gene walked up behind him, picking a rose from one of the bushes as he walked along.

Standing next to the middle prince, Gene offered him the flower quietly, which he accepted with a small smile. Gene looked over the edge of the railing, and he could see the entire kingdom from there. The market area, the forges, the farmlands, the churches, and many other things. Butterflies flittering through the sunlight, a clear stream of water, running down from a waterfall by the main palace balcony, flowing through the kingdom.

A gazebo looking thing was on the balcony, which had a mosaic tiled pattern of precious jewels. The white marble structure was laden with honeysuckles, with a glass table and two comfy white chairs accompanying it, with a set of plates and goblets. There was a bowl of freshly picked luscious fruits, a loaf of steaming fresh bread, and a pitcher of spiced wine. The railing of the balcony was smoothly polished marble, etched with silver geometric patterns. Roses were growing around a glittering stone fountain, embedded with ivory and cedar.

Zane looked like a princess. His robes were made of white silks with black laces, an ice wolf pelt cloak draped around his shoulders. He wore a crown made of ebony, the center jewel being a flawless and refined moonstone, other jewels decorating it being diamonds and sapphires. He wore a silver ring on his index finger on his right hand, with a dark red ruby embedded in it. Around his neck was a black leather choker with a cross made of silver, and a silver necklace embedded with ebony droppings. He wore a pair of sandals with leather soles, good quality straps, and arch support. Around his waist, a belt made from black leather was tied comfortably. Tied to the belt was a small pouch, no doubt containing more treasures.

"So, Zane... how many marriage proposals have rolled in?" Gene asked, trying to start conversation.

Zane frowned at him, his expression tightening. "I'd rather not say."

"This palace is nice," Gene complimented. "Do you come up to this balcony often?"

"No," Zane answered with a shake of his head. "I usually stand on the balcony that overlooks the backyard gardens, or the small balcony outside of my bedroom. I'm only ever on this balcony whenever my family has a private gathering, there's a big celebration, or for bonding with possible marriage partners."

Zane took a moment to pause in his speaking to glance at Gene, who looked hot.

No, I'm serious. Zane is actually looking at Gene, and he looks hot.

"You should try the sweet rolls," Zane said so suddenly that Gene nearly jumped. "Or the cakes. Have I mentioned that I love sweets?"

"Only about fifty times when I was taking you to your dragon," Gene answered. "You wanna know what I wanna eat?"

"Sure, what?" Zane asked.

"You."

(I'm thinking about making another Aphmau Royalty AU Story, with the publishing of Aphmau's new series, A Royal Tale. What do you guys think?)
