It was hot during the day.
Zane kept fanning himself with his wings as he stormed around his "post", which was one of the many Word Wall locations. He kept glancing at the large chest that was placed by the Word Wall, where he had stored a bunch of random items. He wasn't sure if any mortal would consider them to be valuable, but they sure were shiny, and Zane loved shiny things.
So far his freedom was boring. His older brother had freed him from his imprisonment, and then dropped off at a Word Wall in the middle of nowhere, and told him to stay there. Something about Garroth's voice when he said that was grim, as if something bad might happen to Zane. Zane had ignored it at the time. After all, he was a Dragon. He was fearsome, and a natural born warrior (*John Cena head appears* Are you sure about that--).
Alright, maybe not as fearsome or warlike as his older brother, but still a fearsome warrior. He had made his mother and father so proud when he had killed his first mortal, and his older brother had started treating him as an actual Dragon, and not a piece of meat trampled by Giants. It was a wonderful day indeed.
Zane's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of light footsteps, as if someone was trying to be sneaky. It would of worked with anyone else, but not Zane. He was a master at stealth on his own behalf, so he would not be fooled so easily.
Around the corner of the cliff, a mortal appeared. They were muscular and looked like they had walked through ten different war zones, their bonemold armor stained by blood. They were clutching a warhammer, one made of sharpened and hardened glass. Their eyes fixed onto Zane like a wolf stalking it's prey, deep teal blue meeting icy sky blue.
They slowly put their warhammer on the ground, before bringing out a bow made of the same material. They loaded an arrow onto it, also made of glass, and then shot it at him.
Zane looked down, and saw that the arrow had just barely pierced the skin on his chest. When he looked up, the mortal was gone.
Zane blinked repeatedly, before looking around. Had the mortal jumped behind a pile of rocks and he hadn't noticed it? The. Again, with the heat that Zane was being forced to live with, it could have easily been his imagination. He didn't know how to describe the pain he felt or the arrow actually being in his chest, though. Perhaps the Giants at the Giant Camp nearby had learned archery. It would make sense that they would try to pick a fight with Zane, he was a Dragon after all. Before he and his kind had returned, the Giants and their pet Mammoths were the most feared creatures. No wonder they were so jealous.
Zane turned his head to look out at the camp. He could hardly see the Giants through the large fire, but he could see that one of them was milking a Mammoth, most likely to make more of the Mammoth cheese that they ate.
Zane let out a heavy sigh as he turned his head again to look out over the mess of animal bones and bloodstains. As soon as he did, though, the the last thing he saw...
Was a glass warhammer smashing the side of his face.

Wow, he has got to be the stupidest out of all of them, Gene thought.
It was his true opinion, though. Every other Dragon who had turned one of the designated Word Walls into their not-so-secret lair was a tough challenge, even the ones who just attacked out of nowhere in the wilderness, miles from civilization! This one, on the other hand, was weak. Divines, it had to be the weakest Dragon that Gene had ever faced.
