Night's Revenge

Gene heard the pain filled wails before he even entered the palace.

Anyone who had been inside of Tartarus had known the truth about where Monsters, and even the Gods themselves came from. Zane, also known as Nyx, was the embodiment of the Night, and the Father of all that existed.

Unfortunately, most of Zane's children never saw the great being in person. Even small messages were rare. The only ones who had ever seen the Creator themselves were his parents, brothers, and the invisible servants that Zane had created.

He gave birth to the Cyclops, Cynocephali, Dracaena, Earthborn, Erinyes, Vampire Lords, Werewolves, Titans, Giants, Dragons, Arachne, Arai, Pegasus, the Gorgons, everything.

Gene definitely felt the pressure. He was the first being, who wasn't related or an invisible servant, who would see Zane in person.

He stopped in front of a set of double doors made out of dark oak wood, with beautifully carved and polished silver handles. They looked like normal doors, nothing like the flashy or extreme doors made out of jewels that the Gods on Mount Olympus had. When he opened one door, he could feel the darkness pouring out.

The floor was made out of ivory tiles, with a black carpet leading to a small flight of five steps. The windows were made black stained glass, in arched frames with black curtains against them. Much like the floor, the walls were a beautiful white color. But they weren't made of ivory. In between each of the windows hung a tapestry, depicting one of Zane's first children. Akhlys, the Goddess of Misery and Poisons. The Arai, or Spirits of Curses. The Fates. Hecate, Goddess of Magic. Geras, God of Old Age. Eris, the Goddess of Strife. Dozens more were present as well, each one depicting a spawn of Zane. The throne was made out of Stygian Iron, but silvery like the moon. Chiseled columns of marble led down the rug to the throne, silver braziers containing pale blue flames. Long feasting tables made of mahogany wood face each other on opposite sides of the room, each set up with silver platters and glass goblets. Filled with bowls of luscious fruits, loafs of steaming fresh bread, and bottles of the finest wine. White marble tables with glass bowls filled with flawless jewels and other rare minerals, and two platinum chandeliers overhead that blazed with lit candles. The throne room smelled of fresh rain and lemon, which was very nice to Gene.

Then there was the Night himself. The Personification of the Night; Controller of Knowledge, Birth, Darkness, Voice. He had supported his brother-- Garroth, the Personification of the Day-- when he transformed his current spouse from a mortal to an immortal, thus creating the God of Sleep, Dreams, and Nightmares.

Resting on the throne in the back of the room was Zane, laying on his side with his arms wrapped around his belly, which was round and swollen, pulsing with light. His eye was closed, small whimpers of pain and discomfort coming from his mouth every few seconds. He had large black feathered wings, surrounded by a veil of ash and smoke. His robes were as black as voids, fused with the eye-catching colors of a space nebula, swirling and shifting as if galaxies were being born in his outfit. He beat his wings, and a wave of darkness that was as large as a tsunami washed over Gene, making his eyesight dim and feel heavy while sleepy. On his belly, where the bellybutton on a mortal would have been, was a perfectly cut jewel that changed colors, from seaweed green to crimson red. On his head was a crown woven from silver, embedded by onyx jewels and diamonds, with the centerpiece being a moonstone.

"G.. Gene..." Zane coughed between two whimpers of pain.

Gene stopped in his tracks as if he had been frozen solid, slowly looking to the personification of the Night. Sure, Gene was the God of Revenge, Warfare, and Lust. But that was nothing compared to the power that Zane had.

"Gene..." Zane called out again, gritting his teeth in pain.

"I'm here, I'm here." Gene said quickly, forcing his legs to move. "I was told that you wanted to see me?"

"Yes.." He replied weakly, squeezing his eye closed tighter as the jewel on his belly opened up a portal, and out dropped a Basilisk.

"Oh, are you alright?" He asked, his eyes showing genuine concern as the reformed Basilisk has warped away.

"The Giants are the worst." He weakly answered, trying to sit up.

"Born with a full set of armor and some of the sharpest weapons." He recalled with a nod. "Nearly made you like Ouranus and Gaia."

Zane nodded slightly, opening his eye to show a soft sky blue, the brightest color on Zane's entire being. Ouranus and Gaia had been weakened and damaged to the point where they couldn't obtain any form of a consciousness. Ouranus, the Sky. Gaia, the Earth.

It occurred to Gene that the pain in Zane's belly must have subsided, even for a small bit if he was able to move like that. He never had an audience with one of the Elemental Gods, like Zane, so he had no idea what to bring up.

"Do you want to feel them kick?" Zane asked shyly, a blush of embarrassment on his face.

"Oh, uh... sure.." Gene replied, blinking out of surprise.

He gently placed his hand on Zane's belly, and he immediately felt the kicks. Some felt like punches. He slowly moved his hand around, before looking to Zane's face. Much to his liking, the raven haired God was leaned back on his throne, smiling slightly as he watched Gene's hand.

"They like you." Zane told him with a giggle, meeting Gene's eyes. "They haven't agreed to letting someone touch my belly in, well, forever."

"Who was the last person?" Gene asked, but he immediately regretted it when Zane's look darkened.

"Zeus." He growled, glaring at his feet. "I had trusted him. I fell in love with him. I gave him children, and what does he do? He sends his Demigods to slaughter MY children!"

"Why don't you get back at him?" He asked, his expression turning dark. "You know... get a little.. revenge."

Zane stared at him in shock, before snickering. It soon turned into a full laugh of evil, as he cupped Gene's cheek. He gave him a grin that showed his silvery white teeth and pale pinkish gums, a cold glare of evil on his face.

"Very well, God of Revenge." Zane said with malice. "I normally don't do violence, but Zeus's reign has gone on for too long. I will become the new king, and you will be my top commander."

"I was hoping for something more.. personal." Gene sighed, frowning a bit.

"What did you have in mind?" He asked with a tilted head, arching an eyebrow.

"Maybe... your husband? Or at least your boyfriend?" He suggested hopefully, trying to look innocent.

"Yeah, we'll see about that, lover boy." He groaned with a roll of his eye, shoving Gene's face away with his hand.
