Bright green emeralds filled the wooden crates.
They were being pulled by wild wolves, and mined by two humans, one boy and one girl. Watching the actions was a man dressed in fully black attire, with teal eyes that pierced souls. Behind him was a metal cage, where another male was locked up.
This male was much different from the teal eyed man and the man who was mining emeralds. His skin was as pale as the snow outside the caverns, with hair that was the same black as a raven, and covered one of his eyes. His visible eye was the same blue as an open sky, with freckles dotting his nose and cheeks. He was thinner and smaller in his body shape, as well as shorter.
"Gene, I'm cold," Zane complained, shivering as another gust of cold wind swept through the cave.
Zane glanced at the numerous tunnels that branched off from the central cavern, wondering which ones the wind came through. The storm outside must have been extremely hazardous, if the winds could reach this deep inside the caves with such force.
"You have a blanket," Gene groaned, becoming slightly annoyed at Zane's complaints.
"But--" Zane began.
Gene looked over his shoulder, and glared right into Zane's eye. Zane froze in place, his arms and legs buckling under his small weight. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, and an icy chill was sent in frigid waves through his bones.
Zane eyed the heavy black blanket bundled up in the corner of his cage, now tempted to wrap himself up in it. The blanket was made out of the same material as most blankets, but was surprisingly warm. When Zane had first been dropped onto it, he hadn't realized how cold he had been beforehand. With a shaking arm he reached over and grabbed onto it, just barely, and draped it over his shoulders like a cape.
"Better," Gene huffed, turning to overlook the processes below him.
"Gene, sir!"
A woman with tangerine hair and light red eyes ran up the metal stairs and to Gene. She got on her knees and presented a tray filled with potions, all of which were the same green as the emeralds he saw being mined.
Something about the potions seemed familiar to Zane, but he couldn't pin it down, no matter how hard he thought about it. Was it something in Witchcraft Class in highschool? Not likely, since Zane wouldn't have even had that class in any of his schedules. But whatever it was, the potions gave him bad vibes.
"Good," Gene said after a full minute. "Now, go pour them on Zane."
"B-But Gene, you only said--" The woman began to protest, her eyes widening.
"That was then, this is now," Gene dismissed it with a wave at the open air. "Now, Lucinda, do it."
Lucinda stood up, and turned to face Zane. Her eyes were filled with so much emotion, that Zane was jealous, envious that she could be so in touch with her emotions. She approached his cage with shaky legs, on the verge of breaking down into tears as she stared at Zane.
"I'm sorry," Lucinda apologized, tears rolling down her face. "I'm so, so sorry Zane.."
Before Zane could answer, the potions were splashed on top of him.

Gene held Zane close to him, admiring just how feminine Zane looked.
He was finally able to get a good look at Zane's fully grown body, thanks to one of the Forever Potions he forced Lucinda to make. Zane was beautiful and stylish in his own way, layers of warmth and unconditional love opening up to Gene in kisses and words of admiration. Layers of warmth that Gene had been set on unveiling ever since the two were reunited at Love~Love Paradise. An unforgettable golden heart trapped within layers of cold stone, that Gene's eyes had looked right over back in highschool.
"I love you," Zane gushed in a whisper, planting another kiss on Gene's cheek.
Gene blushed and tried to look away, but he couldn't help but to focus all of his attention on the goth when he snuggled up to his chest, wrapping his arms around his neck and nuzzling him in affection. The older ran his hand through the lush strands of Zane's soft hair, noting just how wonderful his navy blue highlights looked when they caught the light.
Gene took Zane's hand, and spun him around in a small circle. Zane giggled in response, the skirt of his dress blooming out in the gentle breeze. Their shoes crunched the heavy and thick inches of snow beneath them, as they moved throughout the winter wonderland.
"Oh, Gene, look," Zane gasped quietly, his breath coming out in a small puff of white clouds.
Gene looked away from the frozen lake to see what Zane was focused on. Zane was staring at a large boulder, the top of it covered in a heavy blanket of snow. Gene frowned. What was so intriguing about the rock? It looked normal to Gene.
But Zane saw something else in the boulder. To be correct, it wasn't in the boulder, but near it...
Zane unhooked his arm from Gene's, and approached the boulder with caution. He definitely heard something coming from the boulder... crying? Kneeling down, Zane carefully swept away the snow and dug out the cargo.
A wicker basket was buried in the snow, with a bundle of blankets inside.
Carefully grabbing onto a blanket, Zane moved it aside just a bit, before immediately scooping up the entire basket and rushing back to Gene.
"Zane, what is in that basket?" Gene asked, but Zane ran past him, heading for their little maze of tunnels and caverns.
Zane ran past Zenix with such speed that he was surprised he didn't fall. He had to get the basket somewhere warm, and fast.
Deciding by the fire was the best option, so Zane sat down by the flames, staring down at the cargo he held so dearly. He removed the blankets from around the face area, to reveal that chubby little face.
A baby.
Short blades of ginger hair were growing from his head, with that small button nose and freckled cheeks. Folded in white Werewolf ears were on his head, with a short little tail wrapped around his torso. The pup was sucking on his thumb, letting out small whimpers from being so cold.
"Shh... it's okay," Zane whispered softly, stroking the baby's head with two fingers. "I got you.."
"Zane."
Zane froze at the sound of that voice. He looked over his shoulder, and saw Gene standing there.
"I had asked you what that was," Gene frowned, trying to look past Zane.
"A baby," Zane replied, holding the small and fragile infant closer. "I'm keeping him."
"... Alright then," Gene tried to hide his frustration, for he did not really like babies or children. "What will we name him?"
Zane narrowed his eye at Gene's sudden involvement, but answered nonetheless.
"Erald."
"Erald?"
"That or Emeraldo."
"Erald it is."
