It has been over a year now, and Zane still wasn't getting better.

Gene stood in the room where he had Zane stay. The Prince was no longer a human, but what he liked to call an arachnid. He had smaller eyes above his normal ones, kinda where his eyebrows were. Unlike his normal eyes, these smaller eyes were seemingly bottomless black pits with small shimmers. There were long mandibles from his mouth, with the body of a spider as his lower half. Eight bent legs were attached to it, with an endless supply of silk for making webs and other things. His shirt was torn at the sleeves and waist, made from cotton and dyed black. His skin was still as pale as ever, but with the scars of past harms.

"Zane? Can you hear me?" Gene asked the arachnid, brushing his finger against his cheek.

Zane didn't respond, pulling silk from his body and weaving it into designs and patterns along the walls. He looked at Gene with his two visible eyes, one being human and the other arachnid, while the matching pair was hidden by his hair. He turned back to his work, saying nothing as he carried on.

"Please... say something..." Gene begged, feeling worse for what he had done to the male. "Let me know you're alright.."

"But he isn't."

Gene turned around, and saw Laurance standing there. Laurance was the God of Healing and Choices, who had taken an interest in Zane's older brother. He had been taking care of Zane, even if he didn't show much feelings for anyone.

"What do you mean?" Gene asked, worried.

"You can see what your power has done to him physically." Laurance began, giving him a blank yet pitiful stare. "Dare I say what it's done to him mentally."

"I... I'm sorry.." He apologized yet again, looking at Zane with guilt. "I was jealous..."

"Jealousy is cruel, Gene." Laurance reminded him with a sad smile. "We Gods never have to suffer consequences for what we do, but this time you'll have to suffer emotional consequences."

"But why?" He asked. "Why do I care so much about him?"

"Maybe it's what the Fates decided." He shrugged, tapping his chin. "Or... you're in love.."

Gene took a moment to process what he said, looking at him in pure astonishment. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He looked back sat Zane, who was making the final adjustments to his web. It.. looked like a bed, kinda.

"Zane? I'm sorry..." Gene repeated, grabbing his arm.

Zane let out a scream of fear and pulled his arm back, hiding behind Laurance. He peeked out with a whimper, tears brimming at the edges of his eye-- his human eye. He glanced up at Laurance, before hiding behind him again.

"Oh, great. Look at what you did." Laurance admonished with a shake of his head. "Zane, it's alright."

Zane poked his head out again, this time hissing at Gene venomously. He was glaring at him, grabbing onto Laurance's arm.

This is gonna take a while, Gene thought.

Another two years had passed, and Zane was becoming more hostile towards him.

"You did this to me." Zane would say, if he even acknowledged him at all. "Why should I be nice to you, after all the pain and suffering you caused me?"

Gene shook his head as he walked through the palace, kicking at a stone pebble on the floor. He was feeling guilty for everything he did to Zane, yet he couldn't put into words how he felt. This was too strange of behavior for a God, so he felt like an outcast among the others. The only one who knew of his true feelings was Laurance, who was yet to say a word about it.

One day, Gene had enough.

Breaking open Zane's bedroom door, he found the arachnid on the floor on his back. From the looks of it, he had startled him form his web. Zane sat up and glared at him, crossing his arms across his chest.

"Can I help you?" Zane asked, tapping his finger against his elbow.

"Yes, actually." Gene answered, letting himself into his nest. "We need to talk. Now."

"About what?" He asked, yawning.

"Zane, I'm sorry about what I did to you. I was jealous. I was... embarrassed to know there was someone who was better than me. I couldn't stand it. It was driving me crazy.. but when I saw how broken you had become, it... it changed something in me.."

"Must be pretty embarrassing for a God to be having feelings for a mortal." He joked, purring a bit as he grinned.

"Shut it..." He growled, glaring at him.

Zane shook his head, flicking his wrist so that a spiderweb wrapped around Gene. He pulled him closer, their faces only inches apart. In a low, venomous voice he whispered to him.

"If you ever do anything like this again, I will find your weakness." Zane threatened, pushing him back.

Gene stumbled, his eyes wide in shock. Zane was never like this. A small part of him wanted to damn the arachnid to Oblivion for his threats, but he still cared for him. He reached for his face, caressing the pale cheek that was sprinkled in freckles. He took one finger and pressed Zane's nose with it, making a booping sound for him.

"Get your hands off me." Zane hissed, his face forming a snarl.

"Alright alright, jeez.." Gene sighed, crossing his arms.
