Gene clenched the sticky note in his hand, dropping the paper to the floor. He quickly put on his clothes, which still smelled like Zane.
"He wanted someone strong who could love him. I let my obsession fester and infect him." He ran out of the house. "His solution is a lie, no one there deserves to die, except for me and the monster I've created. Yeah!"
He neared the highschool, seeing no students outside. It was two in the afternoon, after all. "Heads up, Zane! I'm a Yandere boy walking!"
"Hey, yo, Phoenix Drop!" Students cheered.
"Can't hide from me," He declared, flipping over a box. "I'm a Yandere boy walking!"
"Hey, yo, Phoenix Drop!" They cheered.
The bell to end the day had sounded, as students poured out of classrooms and I into the gymnasium. "And there's your final bell, it's one more dance and then farewell, cheek to cheek in hell with a Yandere boy walking!"
"Come on, Phoenix Drop!" Aphmau, the head cheerleader cheered, pumping her pompoms into the air. "Here we go, here we go now!"
"Gene!" Ms. Hyria shouted in surprise. "Zane Ro'Meave told me you'd just committed suicide!"
"Yeah, well, he's wrong about a lot of things." Gene shrugged.
"I threw together a lovely tribute, especially considering the short notice.." She sighed.
"Ms. Hyria, what's under the gym?" He asked.
"The boiler room." She replied.
"That's it!" His eye lit up as he turned around.
"Gene, what's going on?" She asked.
"Got no time to talk, I'm a Yandere boy walking!" He shouted, running towards an EMPLOYEES ONLY room.
"Hey, yo, Phoenix Drop! Hey, yo, Phoenix Drop!" The students all cheered. "Tell me what's that sound? Here comes Phoenix Drop, coming to out you in the ground! Go go, Phoenix Drop! Give a great big yell! Phoenix Drop will knock you out and send you straight to hell!"
"Step away from the bomb." Gene ordered, standing behind the freshman.
"This little thing?" Zane pointed to the small device in his hand. "I'd hardly call this a bomb. This is just to trigger the packs of thermals upstairs in the gym. Those are bombs."
Zane used his index finger to direct to the gymnasium overhead. Gene didn't look up. He kept his gaze fixed on the small device in Zane's hand, watching his fingers closely.
"People are gonna see the ashes of Phoenix Drop Highschool and they're gonna think 'there's a school that self-destructed not because society doesn't care, but because that school was society'. The only place that Aphmaus and Genes can get along is in Heaven!" He snapped, spreading his arms to the open space.
"I wish your mom had been a little stronger.... I wish she'd stayed around a little longer..." Gene sighed, stepping closer. "I wish your dad were good! I wish grownups understood! I wish I'd changed before I convinced you love is war! I wish you'd come with me-"
"I wish I had more TNT!" Zane interrupted, clearly annoyed.
Gene launched himself at Zane, slapping him across the face first.
"Aah! Irene!" Zane grunted.
Overhead, the cheers of the students could be heard once again. "Hey yo, Phoenix Drop! Hey yo, Phoenix Drop! Tell me what's that sound? Here comes Phoenix Drop coming to put you in the ground! Go go, Phoenix Drop! Give a great big yell! Phoenix Drop will knock you out and send you straight to..."
Gene pulled out a gun that had fallen from Zane's belt, aiming it at the small emo. Zane reached over to the device, about to press the button. Without thinking, he pulled the trigger. The bullet went straight into Zane's knee, making him fall over.
"You stupid little shit!" He grunted.
"I'm sorry, Zane." Gene looked down at him. "You're just not the Zane I fell in love with."
With that, he reloaded the gun, and aimed it right for his one eye. No words were spoken, but none needed to be. Gene slowly lowered the gun, unable to look at what he was about to do.
"...... The bomb." Zane gasped.
"What about it?" Gene asked.
"It's still ticking...." He reached over to rip the device off, but when he touched it, it exploded in his hand.
"Zane!!!" He screamed, covering his face as chunks of metal and flesh hit him.
When the smoke cleared, all that was left of the freshman was a blackened scorch mark next to the boilers.
Gene may have saved his friends and one brother.... but he'd lost the person he had loved..... was any of this really worth the cost...? That's an answer you'll learn as you grow, dear readers.... but until that time comes, Gene will have to live with these memories for the rest of his life..... always regretting his decisions....
