Being betrayed by your soulmate is a terrible thing. Especially when that soulmate loved you just as much as you loved them.
So here Zane sat alone, curled in a ball form in the corner of the cave he was trapped in. A barrier of boulders had blocked off the only escape route, assumably from an avalanche.
"Gene... why?" Zane whispered to the stale, heavy air that he was forced to breathe in.
He coughed as the unhealthy air entered his lungs, which were already weak from his condition of asthma. He groaned in agony as he fell onto his side, landing with a heavy thud as his cheek hit the cold stone ground. It hurt more than he thought it would. Over the past few years, he had grown frighteningly thin from low levels of consuming food. He heard voices rushing through his head at buzzing speeds, but luckily he had learned methods of containing that capability.
"I still remember our children..." Zane went on, even if he was talking to himself. "Zerian, Siren, Genocide... all of them... we could have had our own family, Gene... why did you throw it all away?"
Zane once again revisited his memories of a once possible future, where Gene had given him around... a little more than a thousand children. Each one was unique and perfect in Zane's eye, even if Gene made rude commentary towards each of them about every day of their shared life. However, most of those futures ended with Gene having himself disemboweled or killed in some other horrible way by Zerian and Genocide.
Zane once again sighed softly as he traced the choker clamped around his neck. It had been there ever since he could remember, as a symbol of his bloodline of the Ro'Meave family. Apart from that was a copper wire bracelet that had broken off of his wrist not very long ago. It had once been a gift from Gene, meant to protect him from all harm. Then it had been cursed by him, to place him in an endless sleep so long as he wore it.
"What did you do after you betrayed me?" Zane demanded from the air. "Did you and my older brother run off together, bragging about your success?"
A moment of silence passed, one that made Zane feel a thousand times older. He opened his mouth to speak, his voice and mouth dried with no water to hydrate him.
"No... you loved me. Garroth manipulated you into doing it." Zane reassured himself, coughing up a bit of blood in the process. "You always wanted what was best for us..."
He could feel the tears forming in his eye, yet they refused to fall. His voice was breaking and cracking as he spoke, choking on his words.
"You never wanted to kill them..." He went on. "Our children... you wanted them to exist..."
When he explained and described their children to Gene, he was hesitant about the whole idea of them starting a family. They were from different families, both of which were rivals. Zane thought that they could establish peace, especially since he had a thing for the oldest son, who of course was Gene.
Gene could have been king of the region.
They could have ruled the world.
And now... all of that was gone. Gene was dead now. About a thousand years had passed since their time, and now....
Zane was bringing hell down on the world. And this time... there would be no Gene Charleston who was able to stop him.
Oh, Zane was gonna have some fun with this.
(Okay, so I don't really know where I was going with this oneshot. I just wanted to get something done today, not gonna lie. The next oneshot I'm planning is one with a doctor Gene and a nurse Zane.)
