"This is Allie Jade Reigner, we're here to register her for first grade," Katie Leblanc said, walking up to the front desk at Annapolis Elementary School.
"Hello Allie Jade," the front desk lady waved to the little girl.
"Hi," Allie quietly said back, hiding behind Katie's leg.
"Okay, did you bring documents?" The front desk lady asked Katie.
"Yes: birth certificate, proof of residency, and other things you may need," Katie handed them to the lady.
"Great. What school is she transferring from?" The lady asked.
"I'm not completely sure; I recently gained custody of her. She never finished kindergarten, but I homeschooled my youngest daughter for first grade so I know the curriculum. I've been working with Allie, and she seems very smart for her age," Katie said.
"We have lots of space in our first grade, so I'll add her to a class when we're done with registration," the lady started, looking up the amount of students in first grade classes on her computer. "Because of Allie's condition, we will put her in Mrs. Lathe's class, which is where we put most of our lower students. We can always move her to a higher class later in the year."
"Okay, that sounds great."
After Allie's registration was finished, the front desk lady handed Katie a piece of paper with the school supplies she needed to buy for Allie. The Leblancs headed from the school over to Target to buy the supplies. They bought colored pencils, glue sticks, a notebook, and more. Allie's favorite part was choosing a backpack. She chose a pink and light gray one.

"I love you Allie, have a great day honey!" Katie told Allie, dropping the girl off at the office.
Mrs. Lathe was in the office, ready to pick up the new student.
"Hello Allie Jade, I'm your teacher Mrs. Lathe," she said to the little girl.
"Hi," Allie mumbled as her teacher took her hand and walked to the classroom.
Once inside the classroom, the teacher showed Allie where to put her things, then introduced the girl to the class.
"This is Allie Jade, she's new. Be nice to her. Now Allie, why don't you tell everyone three cool things about you?" The teacher asked Allie.
"Uh, okay. I'm six years old, um, my favorite animal is a cat, and I like the color blue," she said.
"I like blue and kitties too!" A blonde-haired girl shouted from the back of the room.
"Rachel, raise your hand next time!" Mrs. Lathe told her.
"Sorry!" She replied.
Mrs. Lathe chucked.
"Allie, go join table three. There's an empty seat there," Mrs. Lathe told the girl.
Allie looked at the signs hanging above the tables. She found one that had a pink number 3 on it and sat at the empty seat at that table. Everyone's desk had a sticker with their name on it.
Allie Jade was written on a brand new label on her desk. The desk to the right of hers had a label with the name Quinn written on it, across from Quinn's was Cal, and to the right of Cal (across from Allie) was Elliot.
"Hi, I'm Quinn," Quinn turned to face Allie while Mrs. Lathe was talking to the class.
"I'm Allie," Allie smiled.
"Quinn, don't get Allie in trouble," Mrs. Lathe said to Quinn.
Both little girls giggled.
Allie knew she was going to like this class.
