Diez (part 2)

Martine's POV (right before the accident)

Ugh. That little brat and her sister. I looked out to the street. Two cars were coming.

"You and your sister will be sorry," I said and smirked.

Annie looked a little confused as I stepped back and pushed them into the street. The first car swerved and the second car hit them. I then realized my mistake. The tears came pouring from my eyes, realizing what I had done. I called 911 and prayed that they weren't dead.

Operator: hello what's your emergency
Me: two girls just got pushed into the street and run over by a car.
Operator: what's your location?
Me: West Fredrick and 9th
Operator: help is on the way.

I hung up and sat down on the street. I was crying from fear and guilt. The lady got out of the first car. She walked over to me.

"Are you okay?" she asked kindly.

"No. Jealousy got the best of me and I may have just killed them!!" I screamed. Now I was hysterically crying on the sidewalk. The lady went to Annie and her sister on the street. Annie's sister was unconscious and Annie had just woken up. Annie was crying from pain, most likely. The woman soothed Annie and calmed her down a bit. The ambulances arrived.

Annie's POV

My whole body hurt and ambulances were there. I looked over at Hayley and saw that she was unconscious. I saw blood everywhere. The EMT workers put us on stretchers.

"Are you the mom?" One asked the lady who was calming me down.

"No. I almost hit them, but I swerved, and the car behind me hit them. I stopped my car to see the situation but the other car is gone," She said.

"Thank you for helping," The worker said.

The lady got back in her car, then the EMT worker asked me some questions.

"Do you know your parent's phone number?" She asked.

"No, but my phone is in my jacket pocket. Hopefully it's not crushed," I said.

The worker pulled my phone out of my pocket. It was cracked, but not broken. I told her my password while a nurse put an iv in my arm. I told her to call Sarah.

"Are you sure that you don't want to call 'mom'?" She asked.

"Well, call her after Sarah. You see, my mom lost custody of me and my sister last year after accidentally pushing my sister out a window and she broke her arm. She lives just over the bridge to Maryland," I explained.

"Oh," the lady said awkwardly. It kind of made me internally laugh.

She typed Sarah's number into the phone and told her about the accident. She's on her way. Then, she called my mom, and she's on her way too.

...

I got multiple X-rays in multiple places. Hayley and I are both in the PICU. I don't know what happened to Hayley, but I have internal bleeding, a broken rib, hand, and femur. I have to get surgery on my leg and in my stomach to stop the bleeding.

*5 hours later*

Katie's POV

It's almost been a year since I've seen my baby girls, and I've cried every day. I watched the vlogs they put up, and I knew they were in safe hands. I walked into the hospital and I was directed to the PICU. I saw Annie, and she had just had surgery. I couldn't see her earlier because they were preping her for it. I sat next to her and talked to her in her sleep. A lady with light brown hair walks in.

"Who are you?" she asked.

"I'm Annie and Hayley's mom. Annie called me from her ambulance and said she wanted to see me," I said.

"I understand how it is to lose your children to foster care. Well, not really, but my daughter Eva died of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy two years ago when she was six. My baby would have been eight now," She said, starting to cry while I was tearing up.

"I know exactly how you feel. My son Caleb would have been fifteen years old, but I lost him to that horrible heart condition too," I said.

"My name's Sarah," she said.

"I'm Katie," I said.

"In case you were wondering, the girls still do gymnastics. I'm actually a coach at their gym," Sarah said.

"Okay. Maybe we could work something out if I don't get full custody, but partial custody. Like, I could spend time with the girls on the weekend," I suggested.

"I think they'd love that," Sarah smiled.

We continued to talk until a doctor came in and told us about Hayley's condition.

"I'm sorry to break it to you, but Hayley may never..."
