Allie's POV

"Hello?" My mother's voice said through the phone.

"Hey mom," I said.

"Who is this?" She asked, clearly confused. Did she forget about her only kid?

"Mom, it's me. Allie Jade," I said, trying not to cry from anger.

"Als, is it really you?" She asked. I could tell she was tearing up.

"Yes mom, it's me. But why didn't you come back for me?" I asked with a hurt tone in my voice.

"I don't know. But let's celebrate right now, shall we? So, where are you now?" She asked.

"Mom, I want to know why you didn't come back," I said.

"I can't tell you, I'm sorry. He said he'd kill me if I told you," She said. Wait, who'd kill her?

"Fine, I guess. So I'm in Severna Park, Maryland," I told her.

"Wow. So you aren't living with him, I presume? Since he lived in Delaware?" She asked.

"No. He kidnapped some other girls around three months later, and two of the girls were sisters and their mom and dad adopted me. I've been there ever since," I said.

"Well that's great. I'm living in Florida now." She said.

"Well, I'd love to talk more, but I have to get to bed," I said as an excuse to fill up the awkward silence that had been going on between questions.

"Well, okay sweetheart, good night," She said, and hung up.

I placed the phone on my nightstand as my eyes filled up with tears. Tonight was just too much for me. Why was she dissing my question? I wanted to know why she never came back, and she ignored it the first time. The second time, she apparently couldn't tell me because some dude will kill her. I don't buy that for one second.
