Sapphire POV
I walked into the gym and put my stuff in my cubby.
"Hi Sapphy!" Elisa ran over.
"Hi Lisey!" I gave her a big hug.
"I bet you're gonna get your back walkover on high beam today," my best friend smiled.
"No, you're gonna get your round off backtuck first," I giggled.
"Come on, we're starting warm up," Sophie called us over.
We ran five laps around the floor and then Coach Kathryn pulled out some kind of big blocks. We did twenty-five jumps onto a block and then climbed a rope. We got to do our stretches and then we did three back walkovers and three front walkovers. We had to do five back handsprings.
"Do two press handstands if you can, but at least try five, then come over here and I'll spot you girls on standing backtucks," Coach told us.
Everyone on our team sat down on the floor and started trying to do presses. Elisa and I were done on the first two tries because we already had our presses. Coach Kathryn says we can do them really easily because we're tiny and really strong. Most of the girls on our level 4 team are nine or older, except for me and Elisa and Chloe. Elisa and I are five and Chloe is six.
Elisa and Chloe and I went over to the soft mat on the floor and waited in line to do our backtucks. When I got to my turn, I stood on my tippy-toes and put my arms up. I swung my arms down and jumped really high, and I tucked and flipped. I landed on my feet.
"That was really good, I barely spotted you!" My coach smiled.
"Thank you!" I told her.
After warm up, we went to bars. I put on my wristbands and grips. My grips are really big and sometimes they slip off my fingers, but I slip off the bar when I don't wear them.
I sprayed some water on my grips and rubbed the chalk block on them while coach Kathryn was explaining what to do.
"It doesn't matter how you warm up, but do two routines and then come talk to me so you can test your routine. After you test, I'll tell you what to do from there," Coach sat down on a red block.
I got in line for a set of bars. I warmed up my kip, squat on, high-bar kip, and dismount. I did my two routines before going to my coach.
"Ms. Kathryn? I'm ready to test," I told her.
"Okay Sapphire, go chalk up and get in line for the competition bar. Let me know when it's your turn," she responded.
I put chalk and water on my grips and got in line. When it was my turn, I called my coach over and saluted. I started going.
I did my kip with straight arms and casted right out of it, like I'm supposed to do. I pulled my knees and put my feet on the bar, doing a squat on. I jumped super far to catch the high bar and swung into my long hang kip. I casted down and did two tap swings into my dismount, a quarter-turn tap. I stuck it and saluted back to my coach. She chuckled.
"You didn't need to salute," she shook her head. "You can work on giants on strap bar if you'd like, your cast handstands, maybe some free hips?"
"Okie!" I smiled and made my way over to the strap bar.
I took off my grips but left my wristbands on. I put on the gloves and grabbed two straps. I put the straps over the bar and put my hands through. I jumped off the block on the side and did a pullover on the metal bar.
"Remember, when you do your cast handstand, don't arch your back. Straddle into it so you don't arch. When you go down and try your giant, remember to tap so you get more power into it," My coach said before testing Sophie.
I put all my power into my cast handstand. I didn't quite make it all the way to a straight handstand, but that's okay. I kept my shoulders open and swung into the giant. I didn't make it over the bar. I haven't made it over before, only from doing tap swings.
I tried again. This time, my cast was at a perfect handstand. I swung into my giant and I made it! I went for another giant, but I didn't make it.
I got a new skill today!
Abbie
I don't do gymnastics. I stopped doing it when I was four because I didn't like it like my sissy did. I only liked floor. I take tumbling classes and I do cheer. I get to do so much more dancing and tumbling, and since I'm lightweight and sassy, I get to be a flyer!
Today I'm at tumbling. I have cheer tomorrow.
We stretched and then got in line in the corners of the floor.
I'm the youngest in my tumbling class. Everyone else is like eight or ten.
"We're doing roundoff back handsprings. Go!" Our coach said.
I was first in my line, but second to go. As soon as my friend Jenna went, I started running. I hurdled into my roundoff and then jumped into my back handspring.
"Nice Abbie!" My coach said, her eyes on Opal.
Opal isn't a good tumbler in my opinion.
"Thanks!" I replied.
I got back in line.
When it was my turn again, I did a roundoff backtuck. Everyone told me it was really high and that I should go for a layout. I'm not good at staying straight, so I didn't layout on my next turn. I did roundoff back handspring tuck.
After tumbling was over, mommy picked me up.
"How was tumbling, sweetie?" She asked.
"It was great! Everyone said my tucks were so high I should lay them out!" I beamed.
"Nice! Let's go get your sister," mommy pulled out of her parking spot.
After driving for ten minutes, we reached the gymnastics gym. We went inside the lobby. I saw Sapphire doing a back walkover on a beam. She looked cool doing that.
She jumped off the beam and ran over to where the cubbies were and slid on her flip flops and pull a shirt over her head.
She came out to the lobby.
"Hi Abbie, hi mommy!" She gave mommy a hug.
"Did you have a good practice?" Mommy asked as we got into the car.
"Yup! I got my cast handstand into a giant on strap bar today!" She smiled with all her teeth.
"That's cool!" Mommy nodded her head.
Once we got home, Sapphy and I changed into our pajamas while mommy made us pasta. I put just salt on my pasta and Saph put butter and salt on hers.
After eating, we headed to Luca's room. He was playing with legos.
"Do you wanna play?" He asked.
"Sure!" Sapphire smiled and sat down next to him.
"Do you want to play with us?" Sapphire asked.
"Not really," I shrugged, "I'll stay though."
I sat down on Luca's bed and watched my brother and sister play.
They get along so well. I always want to do something else than what they want to do though.
