Allie's POV
"Welcome everyone! I'm Alexia—"
"I'm Mary—"
"I'm Haley—"
"And I'm Lizzie, and we're the captains of this team," Lizzie finished.
Did they plan this intro or something?
"So, you lucky eighth graders are those who made the team. Congrats! So, we're gonna start now," Haley said.
"We're gonna put you in windows once we get inside the gym," Alexia opened the door and we followed her inside.
Inside, there were around eight or so other girls stretching and talking. They stood up as Lizzie started to speak.
"So, coach won't be here today because Ryder is sick," Lizzie said.
"Who's Ryder?" Chloe asked.
"Coach's two year old son," Lizzie answered.
The captains positioned everyone on the team into windows so we could go over some basic body positions. After around five minutes of that, they started teaching us sidelines.
"Okay, so the call for this one is 'let's win tonight'," Mary said.
She showed us how to do the moves, and we also learned the words. Once everyone knew it, Alexia called it. Jeez, her voice is really loud!
"Let's win tonight!" She called.
We stepped in and clapped, then squat-dipped forwards.
"Let's go!" We said.
We did the same thing for the next words, "Let's fight! Let's win!"
Then we stood up normally but still sideways, and moved our arms from down to sideways daggers, to a high v, back to daggers, then down. "Let's go, let's fight, let's win tonight!" We repeated the sideline two more times.
After completing our first sideline ever, Haley said we needed to work on our voices, since we were really just saying the words.
"Hey!" She said using her cheer voice.
"Hey!" We called back.
"You are using your throats. You should feel your stomach pump outwards when you cheer," she said, and we tried again.
"Hey!" She called.
"Hey!" We cheered back.
"That was better, but still not good enough," Alexia stepped in before Haley could say anything.
"No, it was fine. It's only their first practice!" Haley responded.
"They should go run the hill to get their voices up!" Alexia said.
Are they really arguing?
"It's only their first practice! We should wait until the third," Lizzie joined in.
"Let's run that sideline a few more times. Allie, your wrists were downwards in your high v. Ellie, try to get your voice a bit lower when you're cheering," Mary told us as the others started to move off to the side.
We ran it a few more times, and the argument finally resolved.
"Okay, so practice is almost over, and the returners except us captains never got to introduce themselves," Lizzie said, giving a look towards the freshman, sophomores, and the juniors.
"Okay, so I'm Anna, and I'm a sophomore," One girl said.
"I'm Sydney and I'm a freshman," Another said.
"I'm Molly and I'm a freshman."
"I'm Claire and I'm a freshman."
"I'm Kelsey and I'm a sophomore."
"I'm Kaleigh and I'm a sophomore."
"I'm Mia and I'm a junior."
"I'm Jodie and I'm a junior."
"And you already know me, but I'm the only junior captain. Coach wanted four captains, but there were only three seniors," Lizzie said.
"So, why don't you tell us about yourselves?" Haley asked us.
