Imagine that the schoolday had just ended and the sun was just starting to set (it was Winter). Kokichi and Kaito, who are competitively oriented friends, agree not to meet to walk home like they normally did, claiming to each have other plans.
Kokichi - fearing that Kaito had fallen for Shuichi - asked to meet the detective behind the school. He had a plan to take care of the situation.
The purple haired boi rounded the corner only to see Kaito with a knife in hand talking to Shuichi, wile the Ultimate Detective is shaking with fear.
The two students turn to see Kokichi, baseball bat in hand.
