The song and the ship just... they fit so well! But I'm making it a fluff because my heart is fragile.
STORYTIME!
Heavy and hard is the heart of Deceit. Made of iron, made of steel. How else was he supposed to accommodate to a set of parents for whom couldn't feel. He had gotten used to the rain, the thunderstorms, and all the hardships of life that he had become nihilistic. Even on sunny days there was pessimism radiating off of this sad, lonely man whose face is littered with scars that refuse to go away.
Just as is expected from that sentence in the previous paragraph: Today was a sunny day and Deceit was still miserable. His hands were shoved in his pockets and the drums of his feet against the pavement echoed in his ears. He didn't hear the birds chirping, he didn't hear the children laughing, he just heard emptiness and the worst of the world. The park wasn't as lively of a place in his eyes.
Deceit glanced over from time to time when he grew weary of watching his shoes walk along the concrete path set out for him. He'd see children laughing, parents smiling, lovers embracing, and animals living their best lives. Deceit felt nothing, his heart harder and more solid than a diamond stuck in Obsidian.
But then... he saw them sitting there in the patch of golden flowers on the top of the hill, all alone. He froze in his place as he watched them smile, weaving golden flowers together to make a beautiful crown. The sun on their shoulders, the wind in their hair, the smell of the flowers, pollen falling off of their fingertips.
Suddenly Deceit felt his heart grow warm, melting the ice cold shell off slowly. The sounds of joy and happiness reached the broken man's ears. The music of the birds circled his ears as though it was a voice singing "la la la la la la". Deceit strayed from the gray stone path and walked up the hill, enchanted by this mysterious person who seemed to be an angel from above. The happiness and innocence their eyes contained... Deceit was attracted towards it like a magnet.
Hades has found his Persephone.
Patton finished the flower crown he was weaving when he looked up to see a mysterious person approaching them. Their face was horribly disfigured, scars and burns rendering their left eye useless. They had their hands stuffed in their pockets and the brown eye that he could see was unreadable. Patton tensed up, not knowing what to expect. He held the flower crown tight in his hands, crushing a few blooms out of fear. Patton watched the person bow a bit, taking their bowler hat off and holding it over their chest.
"I apologize for being so forward, however I couldn't help but notice you from afar and feel compelled to tell you of how beautiful you are."
Patton watched them stand back upright, their voice smooth and suave. Their voice was like red velvet, deep and rich. It was not what Patton would expect based on their looks alone. The person turned around, ready to leave and defend down the hill. They were going to leave just like that?
"Wait! Who are you? What's your name? What are your pronouns?"
Patton was desperate to know who this person was, the mystery stirring in his brain. Who was this? The person turned around, confused and surprised that Patton had called out to them. Patton's trio on the flower crown slipped, not nearly as tight and the wrinkled up bloom from his sweaty hands fell off the ring, the stems still weaves together tightly to keep the crown's form. The person sat down on their knees across from Patton. They laughed, shaking their head.
"You wouldn't believe me if I said my name, however I can confirm my pronouns are he/him. What about you?"
Patton was confused. Why wouldn't he believe him? It was nice to know his prefered pronouns so he doesn't actually offend him. Patton doesn't like offending people. Patton did his best to smile. He was really really curious to hear what his name was!
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but I kinda really wanna know your name! Oh, and just for future reference I also use he/him pronouns! I'm okay with they/them too. But yeah, sorry for being pushy but... I really wanna know you're name now! It's a mystery!"
Deceit watched the boy laugh, his face lighting up. He made the sun green with envy and all spotlights look dull in comparison. There's controversy if love at first sight truly exists, however in this moment Deceit knew that it was true. He saw his face, and now he is a believer. He laughed again. He hasn't laughed in over a decade and now here he was, this stranger making him laugh twice. It was almost magical.
"My name is Deceit."
Deceit watched his eyes fill with confusion, and then acceptance. Deceit had changed his name a long, long time ago. He had it changed so that his name shall be Deceit in every legal document. He took away his last name entirely. It was to run away from the childhood he never wanted. Deceit was confused as Patton lifted his arms and placed the flower crown on his head. Deceit felt his entire chest grow warm, the warmth spreading up to his face.
"Well okay then! Deceit... I'll admit it's a bit weird to say but that's okay! That's your name and I'll call you that from now on! My name's is Patton!"
Deceit lifted his hand and traced the flower crown that had just been planted above his head. This boy was an angel. He giggled and grinned. His freckles popped off of his skin and the chocolate brown of his eyes shimmered in the sun. He was literally the most beautiful person Deceit had ever met. Deceit never wanted to leave this boy. He said his name, what was it? Patton? What a beautiful name. An innocent name to match the smile that adorned his face.
Patton was his Persephone.
