I kinda see this in a new light after a certain other ship *coughFerdinandxHubert* from another fandom showed me the light. So let me see if I can show off my new understanding.

STORYTIME!

"Of course you're always out of tea leaves, ain't ya? Maybe you should stop going on scavenges and challenge the humans of nearby kingdoms so much so you don't waste all your resources so fast. I'm tired of you coming into my hut and taking all my supplies gods damnit!"

"Oh come on Virgil! Isn't that what being a Mage is all about? Showing off your magical ability, going on adventures and traveling across the seven continents, reincarnating fell Dragons and slaying powerful beasts the mere humans dare not face? You just stay here in your hut all day making potions, planting herbs, and drinking coffee. With how much coffee you drink, it's surprising how you don't run out of the stuff sooner. You have no right to scold me like a wife does her husband."

Virgil rolled his eyes, continuing weaving his dream catcher as the bickering was happening once again between the two mages. Virgil was a spiritual mage: harnessing the blessings of the earth and using Anima magic to rejuvenate and rekindle the flora. Roman, however, was light mage: flashing off great examples of lightning and fire and attacking those who make a mockery of the witch race. Two entirely different elements, but yet they were one in the same: they were both of the witch race and they both were mages. There is a difference. Well, at least in the universe this one shot takes place in.

Roman sat down next to Virgil on his little couch made entirely out of roots of a leafless bush. Virgil had manipulated the way the plant has grown to create a mutualistic relationship. Virgil cares for the bush as if provided furniture for him. Virgil cared deeply about all his plants. Roman noisily looked over Virgil's shoulder st his latest dreamcatcher. He goes into town, pretending to be a traveler, and sells these dreamcatchers telling stories of spirits and ancient tribes, trying to keep the Anima magic alive on this earth. It wasn't pretty much the only social interaction he had other than Roman. Virgil groaned at how nosy the light witch was being.

"What?"

"Are we going to have tea or not? That's what always happens when I come to visit. We fight about our life choices, and the fact I always drink all my tea I leave with way too early, then we let bygones be bygones, then we share a cup of tea and cup of coffee and I tell you about what I have witnessed on my most recent venture. That's how the story goes."

"Oh really? And what if I don't want to go through the trouble of grinding up your tea leaves and brewing a cup of coffee and tea for a guest who doesn't even give me the common decency of a warning before you barge into my home?"

"Oh come on, Virge. You can't fool me. You always keep my favorite tea leaves in that little jar in the cupboard next to your coffee and other fragrances and brewable herbs. You have them pre-ground and everything. And you love it when I come to visit. Sure, it makes you startled and an anxious mess at first, but you know that you're glad I'm back. But if you're gonna make a fuss about it I guess I'll just do it my-"

"Nope! Not a chance! Noooo way! You're the one who always insists on being my guest so I ain't gonna allow you to be the host in my home. Sit down at the table. You're lucky I already brewed a pot of coffee earlier for me so all I gotta do is make your tea. Gods and Spirits Above, Roman! You're lucky I love you so much I'm willing to go through all this just for you."

"I know. Love you too Virge~"

Roman got exactly what he wanted. He knows Virgil can't resist him, especially when Roman is right. How many decades have the two witches been in courtship? Several. Hands full. They've known eachother far too long. Roman adored Virgil, even though he pretends to be mad after Roman's expeditions. Roman leaves for years a time and comes back for a few years, leaving again. That may seem cruel to you humans reading this, but time passes much faster for those of the witch race. A year is nothing. A decade in human time is maybe six months in witch time. The two mages were used to this system, even if Virgil would be depressed and reclusive the first few weeks after Roman leaves.

Roman sat at the table, watching Virgil set a deep purple cup of his bitter coffee on the table. There was a white cloth covering the rooted furniture. Virgil didn't have a single bit of actual furniture. It was all trees, bushes, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation. It really is an incredible phenomenon, but Roman much prefers the flashy and impressive light Magics, like fire, lightning, Astra, exetera. To each their own. The coffee had a deep, earthy smell that took over the entire room. An earthy and bitter aroma. Not Roman's taste at all. Nearly three centuries and he still has t acquired a taste for the Brown... substance. It's never happening.

Virgil returned to the table with a cup of tea, special for Roman. A bright, flavorful, and delectable tea. Roman's mouth watered just remembering the flavor of the beverage. Virgil set it down and sat down In his chair, obviously pretending to be salty. Well, he does have a right to be mad. Roman was gone for longer this time. Virgil always gets these dark thoughts and obsurd worries over Roman whenever he's away for extended periods of time. Roman reached his hand over the table. Virgil sighed and gave in, placing his over Roman's and giving him a small smile. There's that beautiful smile.

"You really need to keep yourself more prepared. Or stop being such a glut for tea when you're on your own. Honestly, you can be so uncautious and irresponsible I wish you just stop going so far. If you'd just settle down and spend he rest of your days in a comfortable life with me then you wouldn't have to worry about running out of tea or injuring yourself or what others think of you."

"Virgil, you know that's just not how I work. We are two entirely different subraces of witches, and we have to conflicting personalities. I told you this exact thing when I asked you into courtship with me."

"I know I know I know, aight? I do know. This makes you happy. I just can't help but be... paranoid. Gods and spirits I hate saying that word with every fiber of my being! But, yeah. I worry you're 'playing' with those humans or even other witches, or you're going to be slaughtered and I would never know, or even-"

"Virge, Stop. You know that won't happen. I always come back to you and I never will stop coming back to you. You are the only soul that I will ever love. You are my darling, my love, my blessing from the Gods and Spirits of this earth. Now please  calm your mind and drink your coffee. I'm home now and I plan on staying for a nice long while, okay? This generation of humans is quite a boring one anyway. And I want to spend time with the soul who has entirely and monotonously captured my heart."

"Really?"

"Really really."

Virgil snickered darkly at the dorky humor of Roman. Roman was such a dork, even if he had Virgil this worried for him. Roman was going to be staying with him for a nice, long while to compensate. That's wonderful news to him. He missed Roman so much. An empty bed is one you hate going back to after a long enough time, or even right after the one you shared it with leaves. Sure, the extra room to sprawl your limbs out is very tenprting, but physical affection and reassurance means far more in comparison.

Virgil took a long drink of the earth coffee. He drinks this stuff so much, even some of the bitterest and boldest of coffees are like a regular skinny mocha to him. The fruitful and colorful aroma of the tea overpowered the familiar, comforting scent of the coffee. The two aromas mixed in the air, bringing comfort throughout the entire small home. Smiles on both partners' faces as they chatted about one's adventures and what the others was up to while he was gone. The bright tea and the bitter coffee are together again, and they plan on staying that way for more than a few years.

Who knows? Maybe Roman will stay for a decade this time. Maybe he'll decide that going on adventures isn't worth it anymore. Or even Virgil could decide he wants to go on an adventure with Roman. You never know, only time can tell.

1500 Words

No matter what nature of your relationship, communication is the most important thing. It sounds cliche and cringey, but it is the most true thing. You cannot have a healthy, two sided and reciprocated relationship without talking to the other person(s) within that relationship. Address your concerns, talk about conflicts, resolve and compromise. And just... talk. It doesn't matter about what, but talking and communicating with your partner(s), wether platonic, romantic, or niether of the two, creates an understanding and bond between you that strengthens the relationship. Communication is key.
