Chapter 26

The intense pains caused me to drop down on to all fours as I snarled feeling my bones twist and snap realigning themselves. Jamie all but fell into the room. I vaguely from somewhere beyond my pain heard Jamie's curse.

"Fuck it Jessica your killed their fucking dog."

"I didn't ... it was an accident." I said the shift already far enough progressed that my words came out more like a snarl.

"Alright." Jamie said calmly, as I snarled feeling the prickling feeling that signalled my fur emerging from under my skin. He walked unhurriedly from the room.

"Don't leave me." I tried to call but the words were lost amongst my snarls and snaps of my bones. Jamie suddenly appeared back in the doorway still as calm as ever a syringe in his hands. I heard my beast snarl at the threat she was angry so any perceived threat be it from a hairy rat or a best friend with a needle she perceived them as much the same an outlet for her anger, Jamie though had a beast inside him too so he strode forward unintimidated and stabbed the needle deep into my exposed neck. Almost instantly I felt a deep fatigue washing through my four limbs which suddenly collapsed under my weight, and I felt my breathing begin to slow and deepen.

"It'll be alright." Jamie whispered running his fingers gently through the thick fur on my shoulder, "I'll be back before your friends wake up; I promise it'll be all right." He whispered turning and walking from the room gently shutting the door behind him. I felt my eyes drag themselves closed as the worries of the present situation vanished and my mind suddenly settled on Derek. That single thought made me ache how I loved him and hated him right now.

I was suddenly standing under the trees, one sniff confirmed to me I was in my woods back home. I twisted around and my eyes halted on Derek who was sitting a small way off on the ground in human form his head dropped he held a nearly empty bottle of Jack Daniels in his hands loosely but his lips were pulled back from his teeth in a snarl. I glanced vaguely around the clearing and frowned unable to see what was bothering him, but Derek growled more loudly so I closed my eyes instantly enhancing my other senses and I heard Carl's voice floating through the trees.

"Look he's drinking shit loads and I don't trust him."

"What the fuck do you think he's going to do go out into the neighbourhood and scare the local cats out of their wits?" Dean mocked,

"She fucking hung up on him." Carl hissed, "He was pissed; now he's fucking livid and he's fucking scaring the hell out of me."

"Well I have a fabulous idea for cheering him up."

"Dean he doesn't want some pretty young thing to fuck. He wants his fucking mate."

"The terms 'fuck buddy'" Dean said lightly.

"Look I need your help not fucking sarcasm." Carl hissed,

"And what exactly are we here for?" Dean snapped. My eyes flew open as I heard Derek snarl, he was hunched on all fours snapping and snarling as he quickly shifted into his wolf form, even from a distance I knew his shift was caused my emotions not the usual calm considered manner and it didn't take a genius to know that this shift was fuelled by anger. As he straightened up Derek growled once more and I could see his head swinging around as if considering where to go, he looked out into the depths of woods where I knew all the scents of our pack were firmly established but instead he ran off towards the boundary baffled I followed in human form yet easily able to keep up and Derek wobbled slightly on his four very intoxicated legs. The boundary of the den was guarded by an eight foot high wall in which each brick contained the ashes of rogues we had found and killed as they trespassed on our land, but as the kids we of course knew ways around this there were probably a hundred ways to sneak out without having to be seen by the rest of the pack and that was where Derek was heading out of the grounds. I bit my lip wanting to shout out to him but knowing that wouldn't work this was after all a dream, but Derek would be in so much trouble if Darius found out we were NOT allowed off the ground in wolf form and he had control so this was a choice and so wouldn't be looked upon favourably. Not mentioning the fact that he was so angry, anger had fuelled his shift so anger would rule his beast and that was dangerous but since he would be blind and deaf to my warnings I just silently followed him guilt building in my stomach as I realized what I had done to anger him, it was my fault well mine and the Jack Daniels but whisky doesn't feel guilt so I felt it all. As I scrambled over the ditch clumsily pursuing his thin sleek beautiful form which seemed to melt into the darkness. My foot sank into a pothole which twisted my ankle and I felt my skin tear dream or not it was bloody painful. I dragged myself up recognizing the thick rich scent of my blood which hung in the air around me. I tentatively placed my ankle on the floor and tried to force it to take my weight but as I placed it down bolts of pain shot through my leg and I jerked awake suddenly violently on my bedroom floor back in human form blood gushing from my injured ankle. I collapsed panting back onto my cold floor the sedatives too heavy in me to fight I was too weary to rise and yet too scared to fall back to sleep. So I just lay there watching my room grow steadily lighter as I left my head on the floor concentrating on staying awake so I wouldn't dream I brushed my fingers dreamily across the brand that had been burned into my wrist.
