She saw her dad and auntie. Riya saw her dad and "Prachi's mom" cuddling with one another outside the restaurant while sitting on a bench. Her papa had his head on auntie's shoulder and was mumbling something, too quietly for Riya to hear. While auntie was looking at her dad with a look that Riya couldn't describe, a look of fondness almost.
Auntie probably got the feeling that someone was looking at them, so when auntie raised her head, Riya hid behind a tree to not be seen. Riya didn't know why she hid from auntie maybe it was just because of instinct. Now that Riya couldn't be seen from a normal distance, she leaned against the trunk of the tree, wondering if what she saw was real or not.
"What did I just see." Riya whispered to herself, thinking out loud.
"Maybe I'm just seeing things, it's late at night, I'm tired, and maybe I'm going crazy from exhaustion. There's no way that what I just saw is real." Riya added unable to believe that what she just saw was real, even though it was right in front of her eyes.
Just to make sure, though, Riya peeked from behind the tree and sure enough, she saw her dad with auntie. The only difference was that now auntie was standing up and telling her dad to stand up too, even sitting down her dad was heavily leaning into auntie. Riya quickly hid behind the tree again before she could be spotted.
"Okay, okay, so that is real." Riya said on the verge of panic. She didn't know what to do now.
'But they have never met each before, so how are they together now and in that position.' Riya thought to herself, very confused about what was going on between her dad and Prachi's mom.
"Okay Riya, you're an adult now just go ask them what's going on. You got this, you can do this." Riya said to herself to build up the courage to ask her dad and auntie what going on between them.
But by the time Riya had come out from behind the tree to ask them this question, they were already gone.
"Damn! I missed them." Riya said aggravated with herself for wasting so much time just talking to herself.
'I'll just ask dad when I get home. Today I will get the answers to all my questions about my manipulative mother, and auntie.' Riya thought to herself determined to get the answers.
In her determination, Riya started to walk in the direction of her house. Not realizing that the better thing to do was charge her phone and call a car to take her home. Riya's ambition to get answers to her questions had clouded her judgment and had thrown any rational thoughts out the window.
As she started to speed walk home, Riya started to think about what she had witnessed. Numerous questions were running around in her mind. How did her dad and Prachi's mom know each other? What was their relationship with each other? How long had they known each other? Did they just meet recently or did they know each other before? If so, did auntie know who her mother was?
As Riya was deliberating all this, lost in thought, she did not see the car that was headed her way at full speed or hear a stranger telling her to look behind her and move out of the way.
"Hey, you! Move out of the way! There is a car behind you, that doesn't look like it's going to stop!" The stranger on the street yelled. Riya did finally hear the stranger, but it was too late, the car was headed her way at full speed. Riya stood frozen in shock.
All Riya felt was a hand that grabbed her wrist and pulled her in, before everything went blank.
