"So I know that you're mad that I was late. But at least I stopped you from signing a legally binding contract that would harm you later on." Riya said to Abhi who kept giving her the look, sinking in her seat to make herself smaller.
"You knew about this meeting for a month. How could you possibly be late, Riya?" Abhi asked saying her name instead of princess to tell her that she was really in trouble.
"Let it go, bhai. It happens sometimes." Alia said coming to Riya's aid.
"No it doesn't happen, not with a meeting she knew about for so long." Abhi said adamantly.
"But I wasn't partying, I was trying to help someone, and it's not like you've never been late to something, right Chaacho?" Riya said looking to Purab to back her up.
"Oh, no. I'm not helping you. You still haven't apologized to me." Purab said not wanting to get involved.
"Yaar, chaacho you're still mad about that? I thought you even forgot about that by now. Even dad forgot about it by now. Okay but if you really want to hear it, I'm sorry 'dad 2.0.' I won't ever get into another accident again, I promise." Riya said half-seriously and half-jokingly.
"I forgive you." Purab said after a short silence, pretending to think.
"And oh wow, that was easy. Am I mistaken or are you getting better at apologizes? Purab said jokingly, but he was actually surprised.
"I know, right?" Riya said smiling, proud of herself.
"Okay now back me up, Dad has been late to stuff before, right?" Riya asked curiously.
"Yeah, Abhi, Riya is right. One time you were late to your own concert that you knew about for 6 months." Purab said causing Riya to let out a victory chuckle.
"But did I not tell Riya this very morning that she had to be at this meeting and on time, right Meera?" Abhi said looking at Meera to back him up.
"Yes, you did. But it happens to the best of us. Riya is just a kid, being late isn't a big deal." Meera said coming to Riya's aid.
"All of you are traitors." Abhi said crossing his arms over his chest and pouting cutely, causing everyone to laugh out loud.
"I promise It won't happen again, Papa." Riya said getting up, and hugging Abhi, making his anger melt.
"It better not." Abhi said sternly, but cupping the back of Riya's head in his hand and hugging her back.
"Okay, bye now I'm going to go." Riya said breaking the hug, starting to leave.
"Where, Princess?" Abhi said grabbing Riya's hand to keep her from leaving.
"You still have to look at some papers for the showcase." Abhi said elaborating.
"I can look at those at home too. This office is boring I don't like working here." Riya said trying to leave.
"Did you just call my life's work boring?" Abhi said offended.
"No, I don't mean it like that. I just like the studio and sets better that is where the real magic happens. Over here all you see is a bunch of old men discussing how to make a profit." Riya said trying to explain herself.
"Did you just call me old?" Abhi said now more offended.
"No! I don't mean like that!" Riya said scrambling to explain herself.
"It was Booji who said the old man part, first." Riya said throwing Alia under the bus.
"Whoa, hold up!" Alia said raising her hands up in mock surrender.
"I never said anything about you being old, bhai." Alia said getting up from her seat and coming to stand next to Abhi and Riya.
"I just said that more wise people work at this office because they take care of the business side of Mehra industries and that they are often older because they have more experience. You were in no way involved in that statement. After all, you're a Rockstar, bhai." Alia said buttering Abhi up.
Abhi just looked at Alia and Riya unbelievably. Looking super offended. Alia grabbed Riya's hand and hurriedly left that room, not wanting to offend her brother more. While Abhi just watched them go, incredulously.
Purab couldn't stop his laughter at how Alia and Riya basically ran away from Abhi and ended up letting out a short laugh.
"You have something to say, Purab?" Abhi said turning towards Purab.
"Uh, no, Abhi, my yaar... oh wait what was that? I think Alia's calling me. I'm going to see what she wants." Purab said making up an excuse at getting caught, he too ran away from Abhi.
"Do you have something to say, Meera? Or will you run away too?" Abhi asked Meera who was silently watching while trying to keep from laughing.
"No of course not." Meera said smiling, not wanting to get into trouble as the others had.
"I swear you people spoiled my daughter too much. Or she wouldn't have the audacity to stand in front of her dad and call him old." Abhi said sitting down on a chair and pouting.
"Oh, 'we' spoiled your daughter?" Meera asked unbelievably.
"That was all you, Mr. Mehra. You're the one who calls her princess, you even treat her like a princess. Remember her 6th birthday, when she wanted a unicorn, and who was it that specifically got people to train a horse to dress up like a unicorn for the whole day? It was you. And you are the one who taught her to always speak what's on her mind. So it's your fault that your daughter is so blunt. But I don't think that she meant to imply that you're old it just came out that way." Meera said with a soft smile.
"Huh. I guess you're right." Abhi said after a short silence, smiling as he thought about his daughter's antics, she was really his carbon copy.
Meera too smiled but for a different reason. She loved how her and Abhi's conversations sounded similar to a married couple who were discussing their daughter. She blushed at the idea, dreaming dreams about what they could become.
