Riya had pointed Drishti towards the closet where Drishti was currently looking for something to wear. Now Prachi and Riya were standing awkwardly in front of each other, with Prachi trying to explain why she was in this room, and Riya trying to figure out how to begin to apologize. Drishti had sensed the tense atmosphere between the two and had done what she was told, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire.
"Riya uh- listen, I came to your room by accident. All the rooms in this house look the same so I got lost and entered the wrong room." Prachi said scared about what Riya was going to do next, eyes wide open. However Riya had no response, she was too busy thinking about how to apologize to Prachi.
"I stayed in this room because I got distracted by the pictures on the wall, I didn't know you wore eyeglasses. You don't seem like you would." Prachi said elaborating further because she took Riya's silence as a bad sign not knowing what was going through Riya's mind.
"Oh my God, that sounds wrong, I didn't mean it like that, you look very nice in glasses." Prachi said realizing what she said could be taken in the wrong way nervously waiting for Riya to say something.
Drishti had now come out of the closet, with a new button-up shirt, but she still stood by the closet door, watching the interaction between Prachi and Riya silently, not wanting to get involved.
"I'm sorry." Riya said abruptly, finally coming back to reality.
"Wha- What?" Prachi said shocked, thinking that she heard wrong. Drishti who was behind them just looked confused because she didn't know about their history.
"I'm sorry, it wasn't you, it was me." Riya said apologetically.
"That sounds like you're breaking up with her, idiot." Riya mumbled to herself too low for Prachi to hear.
"What I mean to say is that I took my anger that was meant for someone else, on you." Riya said loud enough so Prachi could hear.
"I should've never tried to ragg you and I definitely shouldn't have framed you for stealing or hit your mom with my car." Riya told Prachi, Prachi had an undefinable look on her face while Drishti just looked shocked hearing all the bad things Riya had done.
"The last one was completely on accident though, I never wanted to hit you or your mom. I was coming to apologize after framing you for stealing because I realized that I had gone too far. But I lost control of my car and ended up hitting auntie. I know that there is no excuse for my actions but I hope you can forgive me. I'm sorry for bothering you even after auntie's accident because I was mad that you got me arrested for something that I didn't even mean to do. I know I had no right to be angry because I would've reacted the same way if the situation was reversed. My actions were horrible and messed up. I'm sorry, and I know that I don't deserve your forgiveness and that you probably don't want to forgive me. So even if you don't forgive me, you can give me any punishment you deem fit, I want to make this up to you any way I can. Again I'm sorry, and whatever punishment you want to give me, I'm ready for it." Riya said sorrowfully, looking at the floor, unable to meet Prachi's eyes. Even though Riya was bad at apologizing this time she just spoke from her heart and said what came to her mind.
Prachi reminded silent while Drishti smiled, knowing that Riya meant what she said. Prachi must have thought the same because she finally spoke.
"I forgive you." Prachi finally said, causing Riya to look up at her with her glassy eyes because of unshed tears.
"Re- really?" Riya asked Prachi, stuttering unbelievably.
"Yes because I know that you are sorry. You regret your actions from the bottom of your heart. You wouldn't be ready for punishment if you weren't actually sorry." Prachi said giving a small smile.
"Thank you." Riya said gratefully giving a teary smile. Prachi too smiled, nodding her head. After that Prachi and Riya just stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, not knowing what to do next.
"Oh, my God. Come on just hug already." Drishti said abruptly, causing both Prachi and Riya to look at her, in their conflict they had almost forgotten that Drishti was there too. Drishti put a hand on her mouth, realizing that she had thought out loud, and looked worriedly in between Prachi and Riya thinking that she was in trouble.
As Riya was still looking at Drishti she didn't realize that Prachi had taken one step toward her. She only realized what was happening when she felt two arms wrap around her shoulders and felt Prachi leaning on her. Prachi was hugging her. Riya let out a small teary laugh at that, which caused Prachi to let out a small laugh at that too. Riya leaned down towards Prachi, to match her height, in the process laying her head on Prachi's right shoulder. It wasn't as awkward as Riya thought it would be, in fact, it wasn't awkward at all. It felt right, both Prachi and Riya felt like they belonged in each other's arms.
Riya half separated from Prachi, unable to let go for some reason, only to invite Drishti in their hug.
"Drishti di?" Riya said extending a hand towards Drishti non-verbally telling Drishti to come join the hug.
"What, me?" Drishti said pointing towards herself, confused and happy with being called 'di' nobody had called her that before. Oddly enough that word warmed Drishti's heart and she didn't know why.
"I don't want to intrude. I'm good here." Drishti said reassuring Riya.
"Drishti di, this hug was only possible because of you, or me, and Riya would've taken another year just to shake hands." Prachi said jokingly, but both she and Riya knew that there was truth to what Prachi had said.
"So come on, hug us already." Prachi said saying a variation of what Drishti had said as a way to tease her.
Drishti blushed realizing what Prachi was doing but happily made her way towards them, joining the three-way hug, needing no more convincing.
Once Drishti joined the hug, all of them felt like they had found missing pieces of their heart. The hug just felt right, it was as if they were made to hug each other.
One more thing that Riya noticed wasn't a rather funny one. Riya noticed the height difference between Drishti, herself, and Prachi. She brought it to attention.
"You're really short." Riya said her head still on Prachi's shoulder, while her hand was around Drishti's back. But everyone knew who she was talking about.
"Shut up, I just forgave, do you really want to make me angry again?" Prachi said jokingly, pretending to be serious.
"Okay I'm sorry, I won't make fun of your height anymore." Riya said knowing that Prachi was only joking.
"That's what I thought." Prachi said trying to be stern. Drishti let out a small laugh at their interaction.
Drishti could not believe that Prachi and Riya were ever enemies. From this interaction, she had seen now she would have thought that Riya and Prachi were sisters. Prachi being the older sister who always forgave her younger sister, and Riya being the younger sister who would mess up and then not know how to apologize to her older sister.
The three girls remained hugging, for who knows how long, unable to let go, enjoying each other's presence.
