"Mumma, are you sleeping?" Prachi asked knocking on Pragya's door, Prachi had been worried when her mom hadn't been at the college for the 5th-period math class that Prachi had with her. Prachi had tried calling her mom all day, but all her calls had gone to voice mail. When Prachi had gotten home Saritaben had told her that her mom had locked herself in her room, and hadn't come out the whole day, not even to eat, so Prachi had brought food for her mom.
Hearing Prachi's voice Pragya quickly wiped her tears and tried to collect herself together the best that she could, when Pragya looked up, she realized that the bright day had turned into a dark night. Pragya had spent the whole day lost in thoughts about Abhi and her youngest daughter.
Defeatedly getting up from the floor, Pragya wiped her tears, unlocked the door, sat on her bed, put on a fake smile, and told Prachi to come inside. As soon as Prachi saw her mom, she knew that something was wrong.
"Mumma, what happened? Were you crying? Why were you crying?" Prachi worriedly asked her mom, putting the food tray on the bed stand and sitting next to her mom on the bed. Taking both of her mom's hands in her own.
"Nothing happened, Prachi. You worry too much. It's just allergies." Pragya told Prachi, but Prachi didn't look like she believed her.
"Is the food for me? Did you eat yet? How was college?" Pragya asked her daughter to distract her from asking her what was wrong.
"Mumma-" Prachi began to say, about to ask her mother what was wrong, why she had been locked in her room all day, and why she looked like she was crying. But understanding that this wasn't the right time to do so, she changed direction.
"Yeah, the food is for you, Saritaben told me you didn't eat all day. And no I didn't eat how could I when my mom was hungry? And college was good but I missed you today." Prachi said while smiling. Pragya too smiled when she realized what Prachi was trying to do.
"I missed you too, my baby." Pragya said dropping a kiss on Prachi's forehead. "Come on let's eat now." Pragya said lifting the food tray towards herself and extending a bite of food towards Prachi, feeding her. Prachi fed the second bite to Pragya and between the two of them, they finished the food quickly.
"Okay, goodnight Mom." Prachi said hugging Pragya before she went to leave, taking the empty food tray with her.
"Wait, Prachi can you sleep with me today?" Pragya asked Prachi before she could leave the room. Pragya couldn't be with her other daughter. So she wanted to keep the daughter she had, near her for the night.
"Of course, Mom. I would never say no to that, just let me go get ready for bed, and then I'll come back." Prachi said smiling as she left the room.
When Prachi came back she lay with her head on Pragya's lap, while Pragya stroked her hair. And so the two lovers who had woken up in each other's arms were going to sleep while holding one of their children in their arms, longing to hold the other child, and longing to hold each other.
