"Drishti di, what happened? Are you okay?" Prachi asked worriedly, as she hugged Drishti back in the now pitch-black room, stroking her hair to calm her breathing down.
"Are you afraid of the dark?" Riya asked more like a statement, she too hugging Drishti back, rubbing her back to calm her down, all of them embracing each other while sitting on Drishti's bed.
"Here, look it's not dark anymore." Prachi said turning on the flashlight of her phone, without separating from Drishti, trying to convince Drishti to lift her head, from where it was hiding in between each of Prachi and Riya's shoulders.
"Yeah Drishti di it's not dark anymore, look." Riya said gently lifting Drishti's head, without separating from her, while Prachi wiped away a few tears that had fallen from Drishti's eyes.
Seeing that it was indeed not pitch black anymore, Drishti gave a small smile and breathed a little easier.
"Are you okay now?" Prachi asked worriedly to which Drishti gave a weak nod.
"Why are you so scared of the dark?" Riya asked curiously, still worried.
"I- I don't know. Ever since I was li- little I have been scared of the da- dark." Drishti said in a shaky voice, starting to breathe heavily again, as she tried to remember why she was afraid of the dark in the first place.
"Okay, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked." Riya said regretfully, hugging Drishti tightly again, at seeing how worked up she was.
"N- no it's okay." Drishti said in a shaky voice, trying to be reassuring.
"You know what Drishti di?" Prachi asked to distract her, hugging her and Riya, tightly once more.
"What?" Drishti asked curiously, looking up at Prachi.
"My Mumma says that no matter how dark it gets, you will always find a light if you search for it, so whenever you're scared of the dark, search for that light in your mind, and you won't be scared anymore." Prachi said wisely, and as if the universe had heard her, the lights came back on the moment she said that.
"And sometimes that light finds you." Prachi said jokingly as the light came back on, to which Drishti gave a small chuckle, separating from both Prachi and Riya.
"Now-." Prachi began to say, while Riya began to zone out, a look of fear on her face.

"My Mumma says that no matter how dark it gets, you will always find a light if you search for it." Riya had heard those words before and as soon as she heard those words again, she was standing outside a pitch-black room, next to a small toddler, who was holding a small soft pink teddy bear in her hands."Wha a you oing here?" "(What are you doing there?)" Riya watched the toddler say to the room, not understanding what was going on, but not being able to do anything but watch what was happening.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" A weak hoarse voice asked from inside the pitch-black room.
"Hat's wha I ak." "(That's what I asked.)" The toddler replied stubbornly. Making Riya chuckle.
"That's true." The voice said with a weak chuckle. "Come inside, I want to see you." The voice said with pained desperation.
"Bu 'm cared of he ark." "(But I'm scared of the dark.)" The toddler said hesitantly.
"Don't be, my Mumma says that no matter how dark it gets, you will always find a light if you search for it." The voice said weakly, but with a little hope for the first time, making Riya gasp, this is where she had heard those words.
"Otay." "(Okay.)" The toddler said nodding her head cutely and then walking hesitantly inside the pitch-black room. Riya didn't know when she had moved, but now she was also in a pitch-black room with the toddler.
When the toddler kept on walking inside the room, Riya couldn't stop herself from following behind, the toddler stopped to stand in front of a dark figure on the floor, and as Riya's vision cleared the sight that she saw made her heartbreak, tears started to fall from her eyes, feeling sick at the sight, wondering what kind of monster could do that.
There on the floor was a kid, a girl 7 or 8 years old, with a cut lip that had dried blood covering it, and a black eye, her clothes had become old and were ripped in many places, she was all skin and bones as if she hadn't eaten in years, but what was the saddest thing of all was the small hopeful smile that the kid still had on her face, her eyes begging someone to come save her.
Riya fell to the floor, not being able to stand, breathing heavily as she leaned up against a wall in the pitch-black room, away from the kid and the toddler, pushing against the wall to get out of the room, struggling to breathe as sweat began to pool on her face.
"You a hut." "(You are hurt.)" The toddler said reaching a hand up to touch the kid's face. And Riya was able to hear their voices perfectly even though she was far away.
"No don't do that." The kid said moving her face away from the toddler, the best she could, even that small little movement looking painful.
"Oh I orry. Here ake Mr. Bear, he make boo-boo ber." (Oh I'm sorry. Here take Mr. Bear, he makes boo-boos/wounds better)" The toddler said laying the toy in front of the kid, making the kid's eyes light up.
While Riya felt as though someone was beating a drum in her head, grabbing her head in agony because of the pain, as it became more and more difficult to breathe that Riya felt as though someone was suffocating her.
"M' Iya, wha you name?" (I'm Riya, what's you're name)?" Riya heard the toddler say clear as day, even though her head was pounding.
Riya knew that she needed to get out of there. She knew that something really bad was going to happen if she stayed there any longer, she just didn't know what. And so Riya made a weak attempt of getting by grabbing on the wall, gasping for breath, only to fall to the floor again seconds later.
"I'm Kiara." Riya heard the kid say, the kid's voice beginning to fade into the background.
Riye collapsed on the cold floor of the pitch-black room, trying to keep her eyes from closing but failing to do so. She let her eyes shut, giving in to the darkness, her hand falling limply at her side.
