Chapter 54: The Invasion Part 3

Why did this happen? Why?!

While running through the forest to save Lilith and the others, I kept trying to figure out how this happened and why. It didn't make any sense.

Not only was the Cult of Zerris here but so was the Amarian Kingdom. The question was why they were here and how. It's obvious that both of them were here for Lilith and her family, but the fact they knew about them was the mystery.

Ethan and Sarah have been in hiding since they escaped the Amarian Kingdom. I think they said it's been about a decade since then, which makes sense since Lilith was about nine years old.

The problem is how the Knights found them after all these years. The same goes for the cult since they found out about Lilith as well.

Both of them were after Lilith. The Amarians wanted her because she was a child of Zerris and wanted to kill her. They were also after Ethan, who betrayed the Amarians along with Sarah. They were responsible for bringing Lilith into this world, so they can't allow that.

Plus, I think when they found out that Ethan was the father, they were hellbent on putting an end to this. Considering that the Amarian kingdom hated anything related to Zerris, if they find out that one of their own helped birth one, there would be chaos.

Then there's the Cult of Zerris, who want Lilith to try and rule the world. They tried to recruit me before and that didn't end well...speaking of which, I wonder if Morrow is in on this.

Did he stage the invasion? Judging from what I got from the Amarian soldier who was alive when they showed up, the Cult was already there. That meant, they got found out first and got a head start.

Sadly, I can't figure out how either of these guys found out about Lilith. I mean, I did, but I felt like I was jumping the gun...then again, it seemed pretty reasonable.

I think...I was the one that drew them here. I mean, think about it. Lilith and her family were living in the village for years without trouble, and then I came along, and then all this happens. It's hard not to think it's my fault when everything adds up.

"W-what the hell...?!" I heard the voice of an Amarian soldier as I ran towards him, but I didn't pay much attention as I cut his head off.

Soon after, more soldiers appeared. I think there were three to four, but again, I didn't pay much attention to them. My mind was on other things.

"A-another Child of Zerris?! No...i-it's the Champion!"

"T-take him down!"

The soldiers tried to attack me, but I ignored them and let Amy and the others deal with them. Behind me, I heard the voices of the Amarian soldiers screaming in pain. If I wasn't so busy, I would've done something worse to them.

{Damien, I'm getting a bead on Ethan. He's really close!}

Good. Alpha's report gave me hope that I can still make it.

{Y-yeah, but he's...} However, Beta's hesitation made me nervous.

"What's wrong?" I demanded.

{You need to hurry now, Damien. I'm using [Diagnose] on Ethan, and he's not in good shape.}

Omega's explanation put me on edge. Dammit, and here I thought I can save them without much trouble. I need to hurry!

"I-it's the Champion!"

"Out of my way!" More and more Amarian Soldiers and cult members appeared along with some Cult members, but I killed them all and kept moving forward.
