Chapter 37: New Plan

After my encounter with Drake, I went back over to Zami and Clare, who was already healed up by Amy. Chloe and her team were currently taking care of the adventurers that were under Drake's control.

After questioning both parties about what happened, I more or less got the gist of it. The adventurers were causing trouble while being mind-controlled and Zami and Clare stepped in to stop them. They first tried to reason with them, but that didn't work out.

The adventurers then started attacking civilians, so the pair tried to deal with them. From what I remember, the adventurer group were B-Ranked at best, so the fact that they were able to hurt Zami and Clare like that was a little surprising.

That's when I was told that they used the civilians as meat shields and the like to catch the pair off guard, allowing them to attack them with ease. Not only that, but they somehow kept Clare from putting up a barrier to protect the civilians.

I'm not sure why it was so hard for her to put up a simple barrier, then again, this is me, so I guess I shouldn't judge. With that out of the way, I decided to look back on my fight with Drake.

Part of me thought I could easily take him down, but another part of me hesitated. Mainly because I thought he'd slip by and I'd be unable to use the same trick twice, which I did, and I failed both times with trying to bind him.

There was something about our conversation from before that was still bothering me. The way he looked so surprised about being involved with Emilia the Lich Queen, I'm starting to think that he's nothing more than a simple pawn to her, not some equal accomplice.

Plus, judging from his reaction, he's likely never even encountered Emilia. This meant that the person who gave him the amulet was another one of her accomplices. If I can find out who, then I can get closer to the Lich Queen.

And something told me that I already know who might be her supposed partner-in-crime. That short man that Korgan was involved with. He was there with Emilia when she brought the Orc King back as an undead.

Sadly, Korgan knows next to nothing about the guy. My only lead to finding him to get to Emilia is Drake. Hopefully, anyway.

If he can provide me with some kind of information about the guy, I can finally move forward with my plans in dealing with the Lich Queen, and whoever else is working with her. Although they haven't made a move on me since Korgan, they're still a pain in my ass.

And it seems the feelings mutual since she decided to send someone after me. If she hadn't brought Korgan back to live to hunt me down, I would've stayed out of her way. They picked this fight, so I'm simply fighting back.

And I plan on winning.

The festival was soon coming to a close. I already left by then to head to Desmond's base with Emma in tow. I needed to do a few things to prepare myself for the upcoming remaining festivals.

It's really the only thing I can do at this point. I still don't know what Drake's stats are and I'm still oblivious to his Psychic partner. If I can at least get one of those factors dealt with, taking care of Drake would be easy.

If I get the former, I can work out a plan to deal with Drake while taking care of his skills. And if it's the latter, I can at least question the partner into getting some information out of him. Sadly, I didn't get either scenario.

That means I needed to go with option three, which was basically go all out, regardless of the outcome. Besides, although I didn't get to see Drake's stats, I at least know something about his skills.
