In the far east of the Amarian City was the city of Montmartre. It was managed by both an Archbishop and a Cardinal. The Archbishop monitors the city while the Cardinal manages the territory around the city.

In Montmartre, the Archbishop who watches over the city is none other than Archbishop Darron. He's only been an Archbishop for about five years, and during that time, he's proven himself to be an excellent Archbishop.

Sadly, the way he earned the title was more or less...despicable. But that's for later.

Anyway, in each city in the Light Goddess's territory, there is always a Branched Church along with the main church branch which is within Paragon City. Montmartre City is no different from the other cities, which meant there was a church within its borders.

Located on a massive hill in the middle of the city was a White Temple, known as the Sacré-Cœur, or The Sacred Heart of Light. It was referenced to the heart of the goddess of light. Its entire appearance was painted in a shiny milky white color. It was where when the sunlight hit the building, it would shine brightly for the whole city to see.

Other than the Church in Paragon City, The Sacred Heart of Light was one of the most majestic places to visit. And this was the very church that our Archbishop dreamed of reigning over.

"Blast it all!" Darron screamed, slamming his fist on the white railing.

The Archbishop was currently in the Sacred Garden of the Church, venting his anger out after his failure to convince the Cardinals and his holiness to take action against the Champion of Darkness. Ever since he gained control of the church, Darron usually uses the garden to let out all of his frustration.

"Those damn fools! Even if dealing with the Champion will result in political problems, we can't ignore this!" He clenched his teeth in anger, frustrated by the fact that no one is acting against Zerris's Champion.

The history between the Goddess of Light and the Goddess of darkness has been known for centuries to even millennia. The two goddesses have one of the biggest rivalries known to man.

And due to their rivalry, the ones who worship these goddesses are doomed to fight against one another as well. And it has been happening for almost as long as the two deities dispute.

The most well-known rivalry between the followers was the Church of Amaris and the Cult of Zerris. Their history with one another was almost as intense as their respective goddesses' years of quarrel.

The Church of Amaris has been around even before the Holy Amarian Kingdom was established. Because they've been around for so long, they have a remarkable influence over the world. Out of most of the religions in this world, the Amaris Religion has the most followers.

The second most followers would be none other than the Cult of Zerris. However, unlike the church of Amaris who has a great influence on the surface world, the Cult has a greater influence on the underworld, which wasn't the realm of the dead, but the realm of outlaws and criminals.

It was the Church's sworn duty to destroy the Cult of Zerris, and Vice versa for the Cult. Just like the goddesses their worship, the church and cult are natural enemies.

And like the other Archbishops within his ranks, Darron has also sworn to defeat the Cult. He believed them to be a nuisance along with anything else related to the vile goddess of darkness, especially the Children of Zerris.

Darron believed the Children of Zerris to be the Goddess of Darkness's evil spawns of destruction and mayhem, which is evident due to countless historical events involving one of Zerris's malevolent beings trying to destroy the world.
