Everyone in the throne room, including myself and my group, all looked at the Beast King, waiting for him to explain. After clearing his throat, he soon started to speak.
"As you are all aware, I asked you all here so you can assist us with a problem we've encountered. About a week or so ago, we got a report that the Temperate Kingdom, which is right next to us, was overrun by monsters of unknown origins."
The Temperate Kingdom, huh? Thanks to my geography lesson I had with Zami, Clare, and Amy, I had a basic understanding of which kingdom is where.
The Temperate Kingdom was part of the Beastfolk's territory along with the Hybridia Kingdom and the Aquavell Kingdom. We were currently in the Hybridia Kingdom, and the Temperate Kingdom was east of here.
"These beasts our soldiers encountered were reported to be very unusual. Not only were they humanoid, but their skin and appearance were completely abnormal. Despite looking so weak and starved, they had the strength of an ogre. To make matters worse..." The beast king tried to go further but seemed to be having trouble speaking.
That was when Sullivan decided to speak up.
"The beasts that our soldiers encountered seemed to have an appetite for beastfolk because a majority of them were devoured while trying to slay the monsters."
Hmm, so the Famished were already done with The Temperate Kingdom and decided to head over to Hybridia. They're likely going to Aquavell as well to make things easier.
Still, if Temperate was overrun by the Famished, then that means there must be a lot. Famine's influence must be getting stronger by the minute.
"At the time of their encounter with creatures, they also came across refugees from the Temperate Kingdom. It seems the monsters were chasing after them. After defeating the beasts, the soldiers took the refugees in to try and see what was going on."
Refugees from the Kingdom? Now that I think about it, not everyone should have been turned into wendigos, so I guessed that wasn't a surprise to hear about survivors...but why do I feel anxious?
"The refugees told the soldiers about how the creatures took over their home, but we weren't able to get much due to their trauma...there was also another issue."
Sullivan's grim face told me that things were going to get worse. And I think it might have to do with the refugees.
"Whatever these creatures were, they turned the refugees we saved into them. Gwen, Reiko, and I were there when we encountered the turned refugees."
"They were a formidable enemy," Gwen stated. "They feel no pain, and their strength was profound. It was like they were in some kind of frenzy state."
"Taking one on would be suicidal...unless you're like Sullivan who managed to rip one of the beast's throat out." Reiko's statement caused me to look over at the Lycan who looked somewhat annoyed and embarrassed about it.
So, these three already picked a fight with the Famished. I'm glad they're okay, but I'm worried about how the situation was proceeding. Sullivan kept talking then.
"We believed at first that whatever these beasts were could spread like a disease, so we quarantined the base where the refugees were and tried to handle the situation. Once we determined that it wasn't infectious, we went back to the King to report everything that our messenger didn't tell him."
If I remember correctly, there was the Beast of Pestilence, but I decided not to say anything about that. We needed to know the whole story and try to see what to do from here.
