Ming-Hua was badly injured. She had lost both arms in her attempt to escape and with no way of being able to heal her wounds, she was quickly bleeding out. It didn't help that she was in the freezing cold with temperatures that were slowly rising as it got darker. Nor the fact that she was getting exhausted and it was difficult to keep her eyes open. All she wanted was to lay down and go to sleep. After several more steps, she decided to do so. She had done everything she could but there was no way she was going to be able to survive the cold or the bleeding out. Accepting her faith, Ming-Hua laid down on the snow and closed her eyes.

You were just making your way back home when you spotted the trail of blood. Whoever had just walked by was in desperate need of help with the amount of blood that they were losing. Quickly turning your sled around, you follow the trail to find a woman passed out in the middle of the snow.

"Wake up! Come on! You're not going to die on me!"

Dragging her to rest against your sled, you melted some of the ice and began to heal her injuries. You weren't sure if your healing would work but you weren't going to give up on her. You were a healer and you had pledged to do everything you could to help someone until their last breath. The woman was still breathing and you weren't going to give up on her.

It took a while to get her wounds to stop bleeding and close up but you had done it. Her pulse was weak but you knew with some rest, it would strengthen. Wrapping her in your coat, you moved her to sit on top of your sled and rushed back home.

Ming-Hua woke up to find herself in a stranger's bed. All she could remember was falling asleep and accepting the fact that she would die. How she was alive was a complete mystery to her. She had lost quite a lot of blood and it would have taken a skilled healer to keep her alive.

"Ah, I'm glad to see you're finally up. I'm actually quite surprised that you're awake. I believed you would have stayed asleep for a couple of more hours but that's alright. This just means your body is healing quicker than expected and that's good news. How are you feeling?"

She couldn't believe that you had even bothered to help her. Everyone was aware of what she looked like and the crimes that she had committed but seeing you be friendly with her made her realize that you were unaware of who she was.

"I'm doing well. A little exhausted but I'm feeling much better. My name is Ming..."

She cut herself off. It wouldn't be a good idea to tell you her whole name. If you didn't know what she looked like, you would at least know her name.

"It's nice to meet you, Ming. My name is (y/n). I'll go get you something to eat. I'm healing you as much as I can but you'll still need to eat to gain your strength back."

You left her alone with her thoughts. Ming-Hua couldn't believe her luck. The Water Tribe's second best healer had found her and you had no clue as to who you were. Suddenly it made sense as to why you hadn't recognized her. You were known to live in the middle of nowhere and away from everyone. If anyone need your help, you would either go to them or they could come to you. She was lucky indeed.

You've never quite like being around people but you found yourself enjoying Ming's company and you were dreading the day she would leave. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and Ming never left. You helped her recover and she helped you out with your patients. The two of you grew closer and you found yourself falling for her. The only thing that was stopping you from telling her how you felt was the fact that Ming still hadn't revealed who she was. You had found out after a month since her stay by complete accident. You had gone to one of the nearest villages to deal with a patient when you heard the news about her escape. Rather than worrying about your safety and the fact that you were harboring a criminal, you worried about her and the fact that someone would find her so you stopped having clients over to keep her safe. When she asked about it, you told her that having strangers over would just hinder her recovery.

Ming-Hua knew that she eventually had to tell you who she was but she could never find herself able to tell you. She worried that you would kick her out and send you to the authorities so she kept quiet. The longer she stayed with you, the more she realized that she needed to tell you. She had fallen for you and knew that it wouldn't be a good idea to start anything with secrets.

"I have to tell you something"

You're quick to put your book down to focus your attention on her. You just knew that after almost a year, she was ready to tell you.

"What is it? You're not leaving me, are you? Because I quite like having you around."

This gets her to smile and feel more at ease.

"No. At least I hope not. I feel like what I'm about to say will make you kick me out or even worse."

"I would never, Ming. I quite like you."

"My name is not Ming, it's Ming-Hua. I was apart of the Red Lotus that attempted to kidnap the avatar and I lost my arms when I escaped, not because of an animal."

She was surprised when you started laughing.

"I'm sorry but I knew since the beginning. One of my patients had talked about what you had done and I put two and two together."

"You knew since the beginning and you didn't say anything? Why didn't you tell anyone? Why have you been letting me live here?"

"Because you made me fall in love with you. Besides, you changed. What you did was wrong but you're not that person anymore."

"You still love me despite the fact that I lied?"

"Yes. That was your only lie. You've always been honest with me."

Ming-Hua starts to cry, not believing she deserved your kindness or love. You rush to pull her into an embrace. Holding her tightly as she cried while you comforted her.

"I love you, (y/n). I love you so damn much."
