You had been stuck with Sokka as Katara and Aang partnered up to search for the king in the party. It was originally supposed to be you and Katara but Aang insisted for the two of them to stick together. Knowing the fact that your brother had a major crush on Katara, you kept quiet an allowed them to partner up for the mission.
"You don't seem too happy, what's going on?"
Sokka asks when the two of you had finished handing out the food on your trays.
"Nothing, Sokka. Lets just focus on the mission."
He knew that your change in mood had something to do with Katara but he couldn't figure out why. He's always seen you be the happiest with Katara but when the two of you were suddenly separated because of Aang, your mood drastically dropped. His eyes widen in realization when he puts everything together. You liked Katara just like your brother liked her. He couldn't believe that both siblings had fallen for his sister. He had hoped that he had a chance with you but after his realization, he knew that he stood no chance.

You weren't sure what you were thinking when you decided to jump in front of your brother as Azula attempted to strike him with her lighting. It hits you straight in the chest, completely stopping your heart. Seeing that she lost her chance to take him out, Azula and the rest of her men rushed out of the cave. Aang went after them as Katara attempted to revive your with her healing.
"You can't die on me! I'm not letting you go!"
Sokka could see that you weren't breathing anymore. Katara's healing wasn't doing anything.
"Katara, I'm sorry but she's gone. There's nothing that you can do."
He attempted to pull her away from you but she pushed him off.
"No! I can save her! I know I can!" She grabs her necklace that contained her spirit water and quickly spilled it onto the palm of her hand. "I know that I'm being selfish but I'm not letting you go. We...you still have so much to do. You have to be there when your brother beats Ozai and Azula." Tears started to spill as she continued talking to you while she healed you. "...I still haven't told you how much you mean to me. How much I love you. I need you to wake up! Please! I can't lose you. I've already lost so much. My heart won't be able to take another loss like this."
The spirit water disappears into your body. The change is immediate as you start to cough and you're visibly breathing. Your eyes open in shock when you realize that you weren't dead. After being strike down by Azula's lighting, you could've sworn you had died after hearing Katara. There was no possible way that Katara had been saying that to you. She loved Aang.
"You're alive!"
Katara is no longer able to hold herself back as she leans down to kiss you deeply. You quick to return the kiss. It still felt like a dream. There was no possible way that you were alive after that strike much less that Katara happens to feel the same way.
"Katara, is this real? I'm not dead?"
"You're not dead and this is very much real."
She whispers against your lips before kissing you again. You had actually died and come back to life. Katara wasn't going to waste this opportunity. She was done hiding her feelings to not hurt Aang.
