You were in the middle of cooking dinner when you heard the familiar sounds of Toph arriving home. Su and Lin rush down from their bedrooms when they hear the door open.
"Mom!"
They give her a tight hug as soon as Toph steps inside. It was rare for Toph to come home for dinner so the girls were excited to have her join them. When you're sure that the food is not about to burn, you make your way over to greet Toph with a kiss.
"This is a lovely surprise. I didn't think that you would have a chance of coming home for dinner this week."
"I missed all of you so I made sure to set aside a few hours to spend the evening with my favorite people in the world."
She says with a smile. Both Su and Lin scream in delight, happy that their mom was going to spend the evening with them. Not wanting to waste a minute, they each grab her hand and lead her to their rooms.
"Girls, let your mom rest for a second. She's probably exhausted."
"No, it's fine. I think I can handle these two troublemakers while you finish dinner. I doubt they were letting you cook in peace."
"We behave!"
"Yeah! We're good kids."
You roll your eyes with a smile at the blatant lie that they told Toph. You often spent the majority of your day settling fights that the two of them started with each other.
"Really? Because I think your mother might say otherwise."
Toph turns to face you for an answer. The girls clasp their hands together and give you their best puppy dog eyes so you could cover for them.
"They absolutely angels."
Toph actually laughs at your answers but quiets down at the sounds of their protests.
"Alright. Alright. I believe you. Now what were you going to show me." They each grab her hand and continue on their way to their rooms.

Dinner is eventually finished, served and then finished. The girls had long excused themselves to finish their work so that just left you and Toph to clean the kitchen.
"Toph, I can clean up. You're probably tired from work."
"You made us dinner. The least I can do is clean."
"You can help me another day. I know how stressful this week has been on you so just sit there and keep me company while I finish cleaning, alright."
"Alright. I can do that."
"Good."
You lean and give her a kiss before you start cleaning.

Toph can't help but smile when she overhears you whispering quiet goodnights to the girls. When she started dating you, she worried that the girls wouldn't take a liking to you or that you wouldn't be okay with her having two kids but that hadn't been the case. You adopted them as your daughters and they considered you to be their second mom. She was incredibly lucky to be able to call you her wife.
"Toph! You scared me! I thought you had already left."
"I was going to leave but I changed my mind. I can spare taking a day off tomorrow."
"Toph, you don't have to do that. We already had you for the evening. I know how busy this case has been making you."
"I trust that my second in command can handle things. I just want to spend the night with my wife."
You smiled as you pulled her along to your bedroom.
"Well I certainly can't complain about that."

You couldn't help but smile at the quiet snores that you heard coming from Toph. As soon as you had wrapped your arms around her, she had quickly fallen asleep. You pressed a soft kiss on her back and fell asleep with her.
