Your heartbreak was easier to deal with as you focused on the mission that you had been given. Following the avatar, you kept tabs on him and reported everything back to the Fire Lord that you deemed important enough.
Your mission wasn't supposed to be dangerous but with how often the Avatar got in trouble, you were forced to protect yourselves. You and your soldiers were put in tight spots that often had you risking your life to save them. It was a miracle that you were even alive after the injuries that you suffered from saving their lives. The scars that littered your back and arms were all the proof any new soldiers added to your unit would need to see how dedicated to protecting your unit.
"Captain! Captain!"
As the soldier reaches you, he gasps for air after running for what felt like miles.
"What is going on, Nim? What is the hurry?"
He doesn't answer as he hands you a letter that had been handed to him. You quickly open the letter and read through it. The more you read, the more you panic. Azula was all alone in the Capitol and she needed you. Zuko had sent you a letter with everything that had happened in the past couple of months. She was pushing everyone away and they hoped you would be the one to get through to her.
"Pack up everything. We're leaving to Capital City."
Loyal as ever, the soldiers you had been assigned to you are quick to pack up everything. They knew that no orders had been given to return to the city but after earning their trust, they would blindly follow you anywhere.

As the ship docks, you hurry to the palace. No one bothers to stop you as your unit stops them before they can even reach you. They don't even put up much of a fight when they realize it's you. Palace guards hear the commotion outside and prepare as if they were under attack. When they see you approach, they're confused to find one of theirs.
"What do you think you're doing? You're not supposed to be here"
"I don't have to answer to you, get out of my way."
Not wanting to risk getting killed for not defending the palace, the guard stands his ground. By now, the rest of the palace guards have take notice that you were the one under the helmet. They quietly step aside, leaving him all alone. They respected you after hearing what you had done to protect your unit.
Even after noticing that he was alone, he stands his ground. He saw this as an opportunity to rise a rank.
"I'm not going to repeat myself. Stand back."
"Nor am I going to...."
The man is tossed aside by one of your privates.
"Go save the princess, Captain."
You roll your eyes and hurry inside. They really needed to mind their own business.

You were physically looking at Azula but she wasn't the same person that you had left several months ago. She had changed and it made you feel guilty for leaving her all alone.
"Princess Azula?"
Azula turns around at the sound of your voice.
"No. It's not really you. You're just another hallucination!"
Wanting for you to go away, she throws her comb at you. Her eyes widen in realization as you catch it. You were real. You weren't another hallucination.
"(y/n)? What are you doing here? You hate me. You shouldn't be here."
"I could never hate you, Azula. Zuko told me that you needed me and I had to come."
At the mention of Zuko's name, her face contorts in anger.
"I should've killed him!"
You don't flinch as she screams. Simply just tuck the strands of her hair behind her ear.
"Why? He's the one that sent me here. Don't you want me here?"
"It's not that! I...I just...."
Azula starts to cry as everything comes crashing down. She was all alone because of her father. She had pushed you away because her father learned about her feelings for you and threatened to kill you. She pushed Mai and Ty Lee away because her father believed that they were silly distractions. She pushed Zuko away because her father made her believe that he would betray when in reality he was the only family that cared for her. He had after all been the one to ask you to come.
"It's okay, Azula." You carry her in your arms and lay down with her on the bed. Once the two of you were laying down, Azula cuddles closer to you. You wrap your arms around her waist to hold her close. "You don't have to worry about your father anymore. Aang is going to deal with him."
Azula didn't say anything as she buried her face in your chest. She had stopped crying but being in your arms made her feel safe.
"Thank you, (y/n)."
She finally whispers after so long. You press a kiss to the top of her head as you close your eyes.
"Get some sleep, Azula. We'll talk when we wake up."
