Lin hated being sick. She hated dealing with the whole process of recovery. Those days that she spent in bed just meant that she was getting behind in her work. Her second in command was fully capable of helping Lin with her work but Lin didn't trust anyone but herself to get things done. When the two of you started dating, Lin would do anything possible to hide the fact that she was sick. It wasn't that she wouldn't be okay with you taking care of her, it was actually the opposite, what bothered her was the fact that you forced her to stay home until she recovered. Since the two of you started dating, Lin had only gotten sick 2 times. In those 2 times, the two of you argued until eventually Lin gave in and stayed in bed until you declared that she was healthy enough to go to work.
This time, Lin couldn't afford for you to find out about her illness. Not with Amon running around the city and taking away the bending for half of the citizens in the city. You had taken notice that she wasn't at her 100% but you didn't say anything as you trusted her this time to know her body limits.
"Chief? You don't look so good. Are you sure that you want to come on this mission?"
"I know when I'm incapable of doing something. I don't need you to babysit me. Get everyone ready. We're leaving in 10."
Her assistant nods and heads out to let the others know. Lin waits until the door is closed to fall on her chair to rest for a second. She was exhausted, her entire body was screaming for her to rest but she wouldn't allow herself to. She had a city to save and her officers needed her. As she's resting, Lin notices a picture of the two of you at her desk. Looking at you, it makes her feel guilty about keeping her illness from you. Lin would've honestly told you this time but she couldn't. Not this time so she promised herself to be truthful the next time. Only if the city wasn't being threatened in said time. Once she catches her breath, Lin heads out.
"Lets go.

Had she not been sick, Lin wouldn't have lost her bending. She couldn't fight as well as she did and the Equalists had taken notice. As she kneeled down and waited for her bending to be taken away, she just pictured you yelling at her for being so careless. The thought of that just made her smile and it made her forgot what was about to happen. She knocks out from the strain that the process puts her thought.

"Lin, baby? Can you hear me?"
Lin groans, her body feeling so heavy. She could barely open her eyes to meet yours.
"Where am I?"
"You're at the hospital. Do you remember what happened?"
"..Amon took my bending."
You squeeze her hand, the only thing you could do to let her know that you were here for her.
"I'm sorry, Lin. We're doing everything we can to get you your bending back."
