Valentine's Day had always been something Percy loved growing up. Sally, despite being married to Gabe, made it a special day for him. Sally had always made sure she didn't work on Valentine's Day so she could stay home and be with Percy.Once he learned who he is, they didn't stop spending that day together. Unless he was missing, or on a quest, they would always spend the day together. She would tell him about his father and when he was older, he's gush about the blonde girl with princess curls who was so mean to him but he didn't understand why he liked being around her so much.
Annabeth never had any holidays be special for her in her six years of living with her family. She left when she was about to turn seven, and had her birthday on the run with Luke and Thalia.
Percy's been trying to make even the littlest of holidays special for her. On Flag Day, he decorated their entire apartment with flags. Percy's favorite is of course Valentine's Day, and now that he has a significant other, he loves it even more.
Percy rolled over in bed and kissed Annabeth.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Love." She groaned and wrapped her arms around his neck, all without opening her eyes. By now, five years into their relationship, she's used to his enthusiasm when it comes to specific holidays.
"For Valentine's Day, can I get an extra hour of sleep?" He nuzzled that spot by her ear, and kissed the hollow of her throat.
She enjoyed him just loving her... until her phone rang. She grabbed it and sat up whining, and Percy being left in the lurch. Annabeth agreed with the person until they asked her to spend Valentine's in the office.
"Wait, wait, Jim, I can't do that, I have plans with my— Put Denise on because she can't be serious." Percy, trying to not be rude, decided that he shouldn't listen.
Annabeth sighed as she hung up the phone. "Percy?"
"Yeah?"
"Let me say, just before I tell you the bad news, how much I love you okay?"
"You have to work today." He finished before she could even get the news out.
"I do, and I know how special this day is to you and I'm so sorry. My boss is making us go on some weird camping thing which also means I won't be home until Saturday." He sat behind her and wrapped her in his arms.
"Can I come?" He gave her those seal eyes and the pouty face that no one can say no to.
"Do you want to come? I don't want to go, why would you want to come?"
"Annabeth, I don't care where I am as long as I'm with you." She leaned back into his chest, and relished the feeling of just sitting with him when there was no impending doom of giants, titans and or war.
"I'm sorry, Honey. Will you be okay?" He smiled into the light kisses on her shoulder. It was a devious smile, but she couldn't see that.
"Yeah..."
"Sorry if this throws a kink in your plans."
"It didn't." He (kind of) lied.
"Really?" He nodded as his protective hold on her tightened. "I need to start getting ready, they're picking me there in about two hours." Percy nodded glumly. "I'm sorry, Perce, if I had a choice, I'd stay home with you, but you know how important this job is to me."
"I know. It's okay."
"I'll see you Saturday, and then we can do our own little Valentine's, okay?" He nodded.
Once Annabeth left, Percy started to get his surprise together. He's going to surprise her at the camp grounds with a whole camp setup.
On one hand he knows New York like the back of his... well, hand, and on the other he has no clue where any of the camping grounds are.
