Howdy all! Summer of Whump! Is something many fanfic writers are doing on Tumblr and I recently found the prompt list so I'm starting now! I hope you like these!

Day one's prompt is: Overheating/Freezing
—————————————————————————————

She was tossing and turning. She couldn't cool down, sometimes California is too hot for someone who's lived there for a good portion of their life. She also couldn't get Percy out of her head. She refused to believe that the reason she couldn't sleep was because he was in New York visiting his parents.

She could have gone but her work kept her planted. By work, what she really means is school work. School work that's not due for about three weeks, but with finals coming up in three months she couldn't fall behind on her ahead of schedule planning. (She also didn't want to impart on his family time. The last time that happened... it was awkward to say the least. In her defense she thought the walls were thicker than they are.)

Now she's here. Tossing and turning, (not) missing Percy, and his arms around her, and she definitely doesn't miss his sea breeze scent. No, she has the real ocean, thank you very much. An ocean that definitely doesn't make her miss his eyes either.

She should call him and tell him how much she doesn't miss him. It's only five in the morning where she is so he's bound to be up by now. She's fumbling for her phone before she can even try to consider the fact that it would be eight in the morning where he is.

It did that weird FaceTime ring that when it goes too long it gets annoying. (Especially if you've been up all night overheating and not missing your boyfriend.) Eventually he answered.

"Hi." Her voice sounded hollow even to her.

"Hey, hun-buns." His eyes weren't even open and so she cracked a smile. "I knew that would put a smile on your face. What's up?"

"I was curious what you were up to today?" Doing her best to keep any sense of the night out of her voice.

"Isn't it like five in the morning over there?"

"So?" When he finally did open his eyes concern flooded through his unfairly perfect features.

"Did you sleep yet?"

"That's not important." Especially because she could have spent all that time tossing and turning, studying.

"It is when I'm like halfway around the world and I can't know what's wrong!" He sounded genuinely upset, so much so she kinda felt guilty for not having had called him earlier.

"Sorry."

"Why didn't you sleep yet?"

"It's too hot here." (I miss you).

"It's cold out here."

"It's New York, which by the way is only across the country. Not the world, you Seaweed Brain." He huffed but it was more of a content sigh than an annoyance.

"She says it like that's thousands of miles."

"Who are you talking to when you do that?" She laughed.

"Anyone willing to listen."

"It was rhetorical."
