Full disclosure this has been a draft since before the summer started and I really want to post something in this book sorry if its crappy 🌝 [@rjmathias is for you] —lex

We pan in on Annabeth with her hair threaded through her fingers, staring at the email she just got. She was supposed to be coming home earlier but she's looking at an email from her boss saying she needs to make a decision about a promotion she gave her weeks ago. The promotion would mean the same hours and traveling... a lot. She knows it's bad with Percy, she's been meaning to work on it she just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

She takes a deep breath and stands up. She puts her coffee cup in the dishwasher before turning it on and stopping in her boss's office.

"Chase! Did you make a decision?" Her boss wiggled her eyebrows expectantly.

"I did."

"And...?"

On her way home she couldn't believe that she told her boss that. What was she going to tell Percy? He'll be happy right? He's always been supportive of her. Though she probably should have talked to Percy about it. When she gets home he's cleaning up uneaten dishes of food, and won't really acknowledge her being home.

"Hey, Baby..." she peered in, trying to get through the walls he's put up.

"Hi." It's a cold, short answer.

"So today at work I—" She was cut off by the sound of dishes clattering in the sink.

"I'm off to bed." He drops the dishes completely and walks off to their bedroom. He's already asleep by the time she climbs in. She doesn't know if he can hear her but as she kisses his cheek she tells him that she loves him. She reminisces of when she knew he loved her. How he would always make sure she was protected in his arms as they slept, or, that she was warm.

As the weeks go by she still hasn't told Percy about her accepting the promotion. She hasn't had to... until now. She has a trip out in Paris this weekend. She should tell him about the promotion, but it's also partially his fault. He's distant and just co-existing with her now rather than them being the loving couple they once were.

She was able to come home early since she has a trip this week and got away with it saying she needed to pack and cook dinner for them. Once Percy was home, he seemed pretty happy.

"I like seeing you smile." Annabeth took his hand and ran her thumb over his knuckles.

"It's nice having you home early for once." A little backhanded but she knows she deserves it.

"So as I was saying a couple weeks ago, I was offered a promotion, and I uhm" she cleared her throat, trying to gauge his reaction in his eyes. "I- I took it." No change so far...

"I'm... happy for you."

"It means traveling." Percy's entire demeanor changed.

"Oh."

"I leave for Paris this Thursday." She definitely wasn't herself when it came to Percy recently. He was always so irritable any attempt would be futile.

"So you're done trying?" She knew she let him down... again. She knows she shouldn't have said yes, but things are mundane in the house. Nothing like it used to be.

"What?"

"I thought we were going to fix things, Annabeth? You said you'd start putting us first." His knuckles were white as he clenched his fists, trying to keep his anger under wraps.

"I—"

"You didn't even try. Fine, maybe the day after you came home on time but the past weeks, Annabeth weeks you've been coming home at ungodly hours. It's not fair for you to do this. And now— you're leaving. You didn't talk to me about it and now you leave in three days for gods know how long. Who knows what else you've been keeping from me! Or how long you've kept this from me. When did you get offered this promotion?"
